I am 48 and will be starting Ibrance and Faslodex soon. During IV chemo in 2017, I was able to keep working as a high school teacher with only one trip to the hospital for a fever after the first round of six. I am wondering if I will have to be more cautious when on Ibrance (or oral chemo in generel) than I was before or if I can rely on my previous routine? Thanks for any insights.

Continue teaching while on Ibrance?
I am a school nurse. Work full time. Don’t get sick any more than anyone else. We see about 50 kids a day. You should be fine. Green Juice helps!
I work full time and travel overseas often. I do get a cold and cough sometimes but not more than usual.
Hi Sushi! I’m betting you’ll be pleasantly surprised that these oral meds are very manageable, despite periodic episodes of lethargy. That is the worst part for me. God bless you!! ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Sushi,
I’m a Curriculum Director and visit classrooms often. At the end of my Ibrance cycle when my counts are low, I just take care to wash my hands often and get more rest. You are amazing! I don’t think I could continue to teach if I were still in the classroom. Hope your school year started off well. Sending ♥️

I am 75 and have been on Ibrance for 21 months
I have continued working (part time) swimming walking my dog
Just feel more tired and have peeling fingers
I would be surprised big you could not work
I'm a classroom teacher on ibrance and letrozole, and feeling fine! Good luck
I teach High School and work full time while on Ibrance since January 2018. I keep Kleenex handy and wash my hands constantly. I also have Lysol available to spray when someone is sick. An essential oil diffuser is also in my room warding off “evil spirits”! I’ve not been sick other than a slight cold and my lab work is always low. Good luck.
I know a woman who is stage iv with mets to the liver and has been on Ibrance and falsodex injections for over four years now and she is STILL a full-time teacher to 5th graders and also helps run her family's cattle farm. I know another stage iv on Ibrance who still works as a nurse in a hospital. Neither one of them has had any issues.
I’m a nurse on a very busy labor and delivery unit. I have absolutely no problem working and being on Ibrance
i am a 'retired' adjunct professor of Education. with the initial diagnosis in 2011, i worked consistently on campus. with the mets diagnosis in 2015, i decided to 'retire' and spend time with elderly parents. i supervised the college students, in the elementary schools, earning their teacher certification. now, i work in our campus preschool performing assessments.
lot of hand washing. afternoon naps/rest. i find the first week off Ibrance, i take two weeks off, is when i feel worst and can become 'sick.'
I have been on Ibrance/Letrozole for over a year, and still work full time. I don't think I've had so much as a cold since I started on this regimen. I do get tired, but try to listen to my body and rest when I need to. It has been very manageable.
Hi Sushi,
When it comes to work, you need to take a few things into consideration. First, does your oncologist feel that you are well enough to work? I would seek his/her advice before you reach a decision, and secondly do you want to work? Even if your oncologist says that you are well enough to work, you also need to take in the emotional side of things.
I was at a cancer conference over a year ago and the chairman said he didn't know how anyone with cancer could continue working. I didn't say anything in response, but I have kept working the whole time since my diagnosis. My oncologist actually encouraged me to keep working when I told her I run my own pet sitting and dog walking business. I felt like packing it all in, but I took her advice. So for me personally, carrying on working has been the right decision for me. It helps me feel normal, I have retained my financial independence and sense of self-worth and I want to carry on. Before you decide what to do, I would look at all your options (not just the medical side of how you will carry on working) and weigh everything up. Then you can make a more informed decision that will be right for you.
