Hi ladies, I have been on Verzenio for just about 2 months now. Last months blood work came back as questioning if Verzenio was actually working. Yesterday I had gut wrenching ruq abdominal pain on inspiration radiating to my shoulder and neck just before the end of my work shift and had to leave work. At 330 this morning I had the same pain and ended up in the ER. They ruled out gallbladder and said it was the liver metastasis that are causing me all this pain. I see onc on Monday. Do any of you experience this kind of pain with liver metastasis? I don't know what the next step will be if Verzenio isn't working and I am scared that I am running out of options.

Liver metastasis and pain
Try to stay positive- there are many treatment options available including radiotherapy. When I was reading the pain you describe I thought gallbladder. Acute pain in the liver is not common without other confirmation tests. It would show up in chemistry tests and can affect platelet counts. Please keep us updated with what oncologist has to say. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕💕💕
Lemur - Oh, gosh, the running out of options fear...just awful!!! Perhaps they can radiate the tumors, or give you some treatments that are especially effective re: liver mets? I think I've read posts from women here with liver mets who are managing the disease pretty effectively, although, if I recall, the drugs used are different from those for, say, bone mets. Please just be sure to access the best treatment, e.g. research hospitals,
"comprehensive cancer centers", second opinions, etc. Be well, Lynn
Thank you for replying. Liver enzymes doubled but know jaundice seen. This ruq pain has been progressing over the last couple of months but only during exercise or exertion (walking up hill with dog). When i breath in it is painful. I should have hard copies of scan results on Monday when I see doc. Thank you for being so supportive. I new I could rely on this site to make me feel better.
I'll be praying for good news for your Monday visit.
A former woman who after 15 years of being diagnosed with breast cancer, had chemo, radiation and both breasts removed had it return into her liver. She is on Ibrance for over 3 years now with falsodex injections. She told me she had extreme pain a few months ago and her husband took her to the ER. She was sure it was her gallbladder but they did not find anything. They also told her the same thing that you were told. The next day she was fine again and it has not happened again.
I just want to say that, post-Ibrance, Verzenio and other "targeted therapies", there are still a lot of options. I have liver mets that increased on Ibrance. I've been on an oral chemo called Xeloda for three months and liver enzymes are back to normal, cancer markers are dropping a lot each month and so far I'm having very few side effects. IF...and it's only if at this point...you need to change treatment, there are good options.
Ruq can also be caused by kidney issues, including a UTI. Did they check your urine when you went to ER?
I hope you are more comfortable now and through the weekend!
Thank you so much for your reply. Yes urine negative and ultrasound including kidneys, spleen, liver and gallbladder. I will keep Xeloda in mind for Monday's doc visit. I am glad this drug is working for you. Ibrance only lasted 9 months for me and I believe Verzenio is not working.
Thanks Sandra. I appreciate your feedback and will wait like we all seem to have to do. Going to do a whole lot of resting this weekend. I seem to feel a little better with all the positive feedback I've received.
Try castor oil packs. Goood luck, we are with you.
Update:
I saw onc yesterday. Liver mets are much worse. Verzenio did not work at all for me. Xeloda optional but prefers to start with Taxol because of my pain and sob. We are starting this Friday and when things get under control he said we can transition to oral chemo. Oh, an will have my port put back in too. sigh... I did order castor oil packs from Amazon and will keep you all posted. Pain/opiods don't really agree with me but Ibuprofen seems to work a little better with less side affects..
Good luck with this, I have liver, lungs and spine mets. Ibrance did not work for me so after three months I went straight to Taxol. This week will be my twelfth weekly infusion. Had scans (MRI and CT) a few weeks ago and all tumours are shrinking. So far so good.
That is such awesome news! I am very happy for you. I have liver, pleural effusion and lymph node mets. I will keep all posted on progress. I feel a little better now. Besides hair loss, is there any othe specific side affects that you have?
