Hi everyone, I hope everyone is doing the best they can be on this Sunday afternoon. I have been having severe knee pain in my right knee and since that’s the side my bone Mets are on, I went to see the doctor. An x-ray revealed a cyst under the kneecap, but was told that it is an unlikely place for cancer to spread. After seeing an Orthopedic Specialist, who explained what the possible treatments could be if it was or was not cancer, I am having an MRI tomorrow morning to find out for sure. I’m in so much pain that at this point I don’t even care what it is, I just want something to help with the pain. I’m already on Oxycontin and Oxycodone, neither of which give me any relief and I’ve tried Tylenol, topical cream, Motrin, and wearing a knee brace with ice, all of which no longer help. Please keep me in your thoughts and if anybody has ever had knee Mets, or any knee issues could please tell me what they use to deal with the pain I would very much appreciate it!! Sending love to you all!!

I have not heard of metastases in the knee before. You mentioned that the x-ray showed that it's a cyst rather than cancer though, so hopefully that means you can be treated for a cyst. Do you have any codeine you can try for the pain? Or have you tried soaking in Epsom salts? On the package it says it's for mild sprains and aches, but maybe it will help with the knee pain too. Or what about a muscle relaxant? Maybe it's worth asking your doctor for that.
I hope you can get some relief soon from the pain,
I have had a Baker's cyst behind my knee and it was extremely painful. It lasted for a few days then went down and has not come back after about five years. I did have a ct scan and the ortho doc determined that was my problem. I used a lot of ice and rest at the time but the pain was excruciating.
I was diagnosed with MBC last Nov. so the Baker's cyst had nothing to do with that.
eliminating sugar of all kinds REALLY helps. At times I can't walk up and down the steps then I realize I had some sweet stuff the night before or that morning. Give it a try and make sure you are drinking your gallon of filtered water daily.
I am finding that also!! But it’s so hard to stay away from the sugar. And I drink a lot of Diet Coke but I am trying to alternate with water. And I also smoke. I’m a walking time bomb. I’ve given up a major illegal substance and haven’t touched it for over 20 years, but I swear these are harder to stop!! But I’m going to try!!
Yes, stop smoking, keep off sugar--really makes arthritis pain worse, and try lemon in your water to see if you like that. I really like san pelligrino water in a swell bottle with two tablespoons of a good balsamic vinegar and ice shavings! May sound crazy but I love it now. AND it is HUGE in stopping any acid reflux in its tracks. Maybe it will help get you off the diet coke. Also diet sodas MAKE you gain weight.
Hey all, had an MRI yesterday and you all were right, it is not cancer in my knee. Thank you all for sharing your own experiences. Apparently my cartilage is barely there anymore and there may be a small meniscus tear. Now mind you, I am one of the laziest people you would ever met, so no this is not a sports injury. My knees have always given me problems and I carried a lot of extra weight for the past ten years. Luckily the Lynparza took 60 pounds away as it took my appetite away, but that was the only good thing it did.
So now I have to work with an Orthopedic doctor to get a steroid injection and perhaps physical therapy. I’m wondering if they would consider doing some surgery on it, but I get the feeling that because I have MBC, they aren’t really big on fixing things since I’m not going to be around for long. Who knows?
But thank you all for letting me vent and giving me support. Frankly I wish it was the spreading of the bone cancer. I just want this all to be over with.
