Hi everyone, been having a tough time with pain lately and I’m thinking it’s because I’m missing my exercise. Difficult when your in shielded group and not allowed out as I’m craving it and I know I’ve put on weight as I’ve been less active. I have bone mets to my spine, tops of arms, legs and pelvis so I’m limited to what I can do. How is everyone else coping

Craving exercise
Hi there
I have extensive bone mets in my spine ribs sternum etc and have a lot of pain so I know exactly how you feel
I joined a health club last August and started to swim regularly and it helped my pain a great deal so I was fed up when the pool was closed and my pain worsened because of it
I don’t stay in the house or I would go bonkers...I go for short walks around the neighbourhood and drive to the stables and ride out by myself...I don’t often go in shops as my husband does all that stuff
Exercise is essential for mental and physical health
Why don’t you drive somewhere remote and have little walks with social distancing...that’s safe and just getting out will really help
My yoga teacher has done classes on YouTube like many other teachers have so look on there and maybe try yoga stretches which should help with your pain
My oncologist just told me to be careful but didn’t say I should stay inside....anyway I hate being told what to do...I sometimes feel that the government treat us like morons with no common sense...I intend to still go out but be very careful not to contact anyone...I’ve not seen my family or friends since lockdown and really miss them so we’re having a virtual quiz night on Sunday
I’ve just read my post and I sound a proper bossy britches!! Don’t mean to be

Hi. I do qigong exercises by following the video on You Tube. I don’t know how to post the link here but search for Eight Pieces of Silk Brocade 20 Minute Exercise by Judy Young. The exercises are gentle and doable. She also has videos for Body and Limbs Exercises as well as Head and Face Massage.
Hi Jules,
I noticed that this is your first post. Welcome on board!
I agree with Barb that exercise is essential for our physical and mental health. As you were so active before this pandemic your body is probably protesting at the moment! I have continued to exercise indoors. I have a health rider, which is a bit like an exercise bike, but it uses my arms, legs and other muscles too. I also walk for hours each day. As you are shielding, does that mean you cannot go outside for walks?
How about using a skipping rope, weights, or walking up and down the stairs? Even some simple stretches can make a difference. Or if you are doing housework just stretch your muscles that little bit more to get more of a workout from it. I would just be careful with overdoing it, as you don't want to cause more harm or bone pain. If I bend over too much my back feels the strain. So I try to avoid hoovering and if I am gardening, I try to use a stool as much as possible so I am not bending over.

I have got a exercise bike indoors so keeping up exercise and even been able to play swingball with my son, I do have painful achilles tendon in right ankle so bike helps as no impact.
Hi Jules,
I teach fitness. Exercising is absolutely essential. Walking is great as it works your core support for your spine, not just legs and cardio. How many people are outside? Wear a mask as well but do try to get out somewhere where there are very few people.
If you cannot go outside walk inside. Boring yes but like I said, essential! Put some fun music on. You want to avoid getting pain from mets.
Dance (carefully ) . Climb stairs. Sit and stand from a kitchen chair several times repeating.
Put your back flat to a wall, feet in front a bit, legs bent. Exhale and bring your abs in tight and lower spine to the wall. Release. Repeat x 8
Google yoga stretches for cancer.
I would start with stretches and cardio related first.
Wouldn’t be lifting weights if you are feeling painful. Stretch and core strength needs to be stronger first.
Livestrong website might have some appropriate exercises.
Choose wisely, stretch comfortably not painfully.
We all must move!
I have a great low impact DVD by Jari Love - squats, lunges, weights...no hopping around. She has a youtube channel and has been doing free live workouts every day.
Be well!

I'm trying to walk every day (thankfully my dog makes that happen) and doing lots of stretches and yoga. I really like the on-line classes using zoom as you can interact with others. My local Cancer Support Community has launched on-line exercise classes too. Might want to check out your local groups.
Hi Jules67.
I also miss being able to get out and about and I am spending too much time eating and baking things so I have also gained weight. I am sorry to hear that you are in pain. Do you take anything. Maybe Extra Strength Tylenol would help you. Of course pain medication can cause some problems but pain is very debilitating and you should find a way to get rid of it so you can enjoy your life. You need to keep your spirits up. I am gardening lately and find that very emotionally healing.
I am coping with my illness reasonably well. Most of my tumors are shrinking except for one in my rib cage. My tumors are in my bones and I also have Osteoporosis. I have refused the drugs that are supposed to help with the bone loss because I heard that those medications cause brittle bones. So some days I am confused as to what to do. But I have lately started drinking bone broth. A doctor Darrell Schmidt says it is the only way to grow new bone. I don't know if he is correct but I suppose it won't hurt to try it and it might help.
I don't know why one of my tumors is not responding to the medications. I am on Letrozole and Ibrance. I should ask my Oncologist for more detail about where my tumors are located. I have only a general idea. It is very typical of the way I do things. I often just put my head in the sand and hope for the best. I almost don't want to know. I just want to meditate on my whole body and ask it to get well.
I am very grateful to have wonderful ladies like you to share my story with and to interact with you and your journey. I wish us all well. Hugs Marlene
I had bought a small apartment sized treadmill last year. It has been relly helpful!
I am same. Can anyone bike or do any type sport , go for hike.
