Greetings! I'm Anne Loeser, the author of the book and .pdf and am so glad you found this resource! That said, the version on the Metastasis Research site was written in 2017 and is out of date. I've not been able to reach anyone there to upload the most recent version, which is current as of April 2019 - even after trying numerous times.
To get around this, I have launched a website insidersguidembc.com where anyone who wishes to can go to the ORDER tab and download the latest version of the .pdf free of charge (the paperback and/or eBook can also be ordered there if desired). All 3 versions are kept up to date!
I understand there's a lot of information in the Guide and that it takes time to digest. To help with that, it's always helpful to print sections of interest to discuss with one's medical team!
I hope this helps... Please consider obtaining the latest version since much has changed (for the better) since 2017!
Kind wishes,
Anne

It’s so informative and puts everything into categories which is easy to understand
I’ve been interested in off label drugs and have now contacted the COC clinic in London so the information in your book was very helpful with the explanation of how these drugs work and the research being done on them and many others
Barb, I'm so glad the book has been helpful! Since I keep all 3 versions updated (paperback, eBook and .pdf), feel free to view or download the .pdf every 6 - 8 months or so (or if you ever need to deal with a treatment change) to see if there's anything new! Also, for anyone who has purchased the paperback on Amazon, the Kindle eBook is free.
I think there's good reason to feel hopeful, and wish you the best!
Hello Anne, thank you so much for reaching out on this site. Coincidentally, my husband and I were just discussing this morning about trying to order your book and were wondering if you had or were going to have any updates. Then, there you were! Thank you for doing what you do, being so good at it and giving your knowledge and research to the MBC community
SoCalLady, you are very welcome! Since I keep all 3 versions updated (paperback, eBook and .pdf), feel free to view or download the complimentary .pdf every 6 - 8 months or so (or if you ever need to deal with a treatment change) to see if there's anything new! Also, for anyone who purchases the paperback on Amazon, the Kindle eBook is free. My objective is to get this information into every patient's hands!
You are very welcome! The eBook is complimentary when ordering the paperback, and any time you wish you can download the updated .pdf! If there are links to studies that you're interested in, feel free to print those out as well.
Wishing you an excellent discussion with your Medical Oncologist!
Dear Anne, Thank you for posting this but even bigger thanks for all the work you have done to create this and update it! I haven't read the whole thing but am very impressed by what I did read. It must have taken alot of work to gather all that info and write it up. For me, learning what I can about mbc and treatment has helped me feel as though I have a bit of control over cancer.....or perhaps just control over the knowledge part, but it has sure helped me feel as though I am coping!
PJBinMI, I am so glad that the Guide is helpful! Having information about approved therapies and cutting edge research to discuss with your medical team can certainly help make these discussions more productive! Sending you best wishes!
That's an excellent question, and one that I would have likewise asked.
When I was diagnosed with MBC in 2011, I started researching the disease and learned where to find science-based sources of information (Oncology Today, Medscape, etc.). Wherever possible, links to studies and data have been provided in the manuscript so that these sources can be viewed directly, and there's an extensive Bibliography for reference at the end. That said, I am a layperson with no medical training, and the Disclaimer in the front of the paperback, eBook, and .pdf states this as follows:
"The material herein has been gleaned from books, Internet sources and other metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients.
It is not a substitute for professional medical diagnosis, treatment, or direction.
Readers are instructed to discuss potential therapies or remedies with their medical teams before taking action.
The author, a metastatic breast cancer patient, is a layperson with no medical training. She does not advocate any specific treatment(s) or type(s) of therapies listed herein.

As an aside, I had never planned on writing a .pdf or book, which thus far has required more than 2,000 hours to compile and maintain. My hope is to enable patients to have information readily available so that they can discuss options with their medical teams when making treatment-related decisions/improving quality of life. To this end, since 2015 I've forwarded more than 3,200 complimentary copies of the .pdf upon-request to patients and caregivers worldwide, and continue to make the complimentary .pdf available to those who wish to download it. The Guide is now available on the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance's website, Komen Greater NYC's website, Twisted Pink's, and others.
Had there been a comprehensive, current, patient-oriented manuscript already available on this subject, I'd never have considered writing the Guide; the last similar book was published in 1998 and hence is outdated.
This reader's words resonated deeply within me, "Your Guide was a godsend for me when I was too sick and worn down to have ever initiated researching this on my own."
Thank you for this wonderful resource! I downloaded a copy of your book recently, but will check to see if it's the 2017 version or the up to date one.
Sophie, the covers of the .pdfs are completely different - the newest version has a photo of a woman on a bench facing the water. Please make sure you have that version in hand, as much has changed since 2017!
Mary, thank you for asking! I've never been NED, and have been on Letrozole since diagnosis (and am very thankful!) I try to stay active and avoid processed foods refined sugar as much as possible, although I certainly lapse on occasion!
birdibelle, you can order the paperback or eBook of "The Insider's Guide to Metastatic Breast Cancer" by calling Amazon at 1 (888) 280-4331 if you do not have a computer.
Hi Anne, I got your book on Amazon after reading a post of yours about a month ago - thank you so much for putting it together! It is by far the most helpful, concise, informative book I have come across in almost 6 years of information overload on the subject. Many thanks again! Anne
Amm1, I'm delighted that you are finding the book helpful! I keep all three formats (paperback, eBook, and complimentary .pdf) up to date as new information unfolds. So in future you can download the .pdf and read/print the chapter you're interested in to see if anything has changed since you purchased the book, since may not be practical to keep buying the book!
Also, if you may be willing to do so, please feel free to write a review on Amazon, as patients find it very helpful to learn readers' thoughts!
