How many of you are conscious of products you use for instance...body care, make up, hair products, cleaning products, air fresheners, candles, laundry detergent...etc...

I asked my doctor if I can dye my hair and told me not to use dye with ammonia or other harsh chemicals..

I read labels on cleaning and personal products and try to avoid questionable chemicals. I used to dye my hair, but have let it go white and put in purple highlights. I try to eat organic. You really have to read the labels.

Hi there

I just use whatever I fancy..I dye my hair as well..I do use skincare that’s not tested on animals but that’s it

I don’t actually understand the link with breast cancer..will research

Barb xx

Hi,

I have made a few new substitutions, but I don't dye my hair (I have never felt like it; I am happy with my dark brown hair). I have started using a natural deodorant, hand soap, toilet cleaner and I have some natural washing up liquid that I will start using once I am out of Fairy. I do look at labels, and try to go for products that are not as harsh and are not tested on animals, but I have not thrown everything in my cupboards away. As things run out, I will look to replace them with more natural products. I like to use vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to clean with. It does wonders for my cooker! I mix it into a paste and apply it to the cooker and it lifts stains.

Take care,

OK, Barb, you are going to have to enlighten me. I don't know anything about the Stepford Wives, so how am I like them?!

It’s a book by Ira Levin..was made into a film ...it was made in 1975 and is scary

It’s about a couple who move to Stepford from New York..her hubby immediately joins the Men’s Association..she notices all the wives are perfect with an obsession for cleaning and looking after their husbands

To cut a long story short the men kill the wives and ‘change’ them into replica robots to do their bidding..horrible ending

It was well ahead of its time..you can watch the film on you tube..just made me think of it when you talked about cleaning your hob...lol

Eek! That sounds awful! I think I will pass. Believe me, I'm not a clean freak, Barb! I just get a bit carried away sometimes. I am more interested in cooking than in cleaning.

Ha glad to hear that!!

I’m the sort of woman that can’t put an ironing board up!!

in reply toBarbteeth

Barb, you're funny! I can just about manage an ironing board! I once got in trouble during home economics at school for putting an electric kettle on a gas cooker! I have improved since those days obviously, but I am no Delia Smith!

I went cruelty free a couple years ago (because the testing on animals infuriates me & is unnecessary) and in doing so I choose products that tend to have "better" ingredients. I have switched out conventional deodorant for an aluminium-free variety.

I am in the process of chucking all the plastics in my kitchen as well as switching to cast-iron & stainless steel cookware.

I'm interested in the ammonia issue. I use that to clean my jewelry and windows...

I have changed all my skin care and cosmetics to clean products. I have also changed my laundry products and cleaning products in my home. I try and eat organic whenever possible. It just makes me feel like I am in control of something.

I haven't had a dishwasher since I lived in California, Sandra. When we moved back to the UK, we started washing our dishes by hand. It's just the two of us (or three if you include our cat, Jack).

I must admit I don’t see the link so haven’t changed anything except for the ‘not tested on animals’ x

Ha love it...my dishwasher broke once and I decided to wash some glasses by hand...slashed almost through a tendon..hospital and stitches...there’s a moral in that!!

How extravagant having two dishwashers..almost decadent...do you have someone to load them for you?!!

Hi Barb,

Oh my! That sounds like a nasty injury. I hope you were OK.

Thank you ladies for your input and the laugh about the stepford wives!

One thing I do want to do as Spongebobmom mentioned is getting rid of plastic containers and replace with all glass ones and get rid of nonstick pots and pans that chip after so much use.

Hi Sandra,

That's how I feel about my microwave! We used to have two, but they both broke at once, along with the kettle (I had a spare, but I gave it to my dad when his broke!), the fridge/freezer and our boiler packed up! That same month I found a lump!

Sophie ❤

Hi Sandra,

I have to laugh, or I will cry! I remember leaving the technician to it as he installed my new boiler as I headed out the door to go to the hospital. This March has definitely been better for me. A year on, I feel like a new woman! I need to wean myself off of using my microwave. We didn't have one when I was growing up. We heated things up the old-fashioned way.

Take care,

Sophie x

I have not watched the webinar you posted, Sandra. I will have to go back and look at that. I watched one the other day which was really good. I took notes. I am still reading Kris Carr's juicing book. I am such a slow reader, as I have a few books on the go at the moment! I think I would do better just concentrating on one at a time.

Thanks again for mentioning your webinar. I will go back and watch it.

Sister/warrior I am so cognizant of everything that is in my environment, in my house, in my car, and all of the outside cancer contributing factors. What if everything we are exposed to, including stress could turn the cancer cells that are in everyone's body on. What if the life long environmental exposures, and accumulations of now known factors was a so to speak straw that broke the camels back. I am trying to live my life with this motto" better safe, than sorry"." When I know better I will do better", and try to inform my loved ones of the same. We have the World Wide Web available to us. We need to take the time to do the research, and figure out what can help to stop the cancer sells from turning on. Sorry I can be so serious, and long winded sometimes. God bless you XoXoXo

Hi Libra48,

What is your doctor's reason for avoiding ammonia or harsh chemicals in hair dye? I have not been advised about this.

Best regards,
