Low WBC on Faslodex?

MacroMom profile image
32 Replies

Hi Friends! I had my first Faslodex shots 2 weeks ago. No immediate side effects (just slightly sore butt) but my WBC dropped from 4.4 to 3.5.....the very bottom of "normal". Wondering if others have this side effect and if your count kept dropping with successive shots. I'm due to get round #2 shots on Monday but am traveling to Japan on Thursday and a little concerned about traveling with low WBC. The good news is the cancer markers are dropping too! :-)

Thanks!

Patty

Are u on anything else? I work in a school with those numbers and seem ok. Rarely sick. Drink green juice!

Thanks, that’s reassuring! I’m still on Letrozole but not Ibrance yet. And I have an Xgeva shot every other month for bones. Are you on Faslodex too?

Yes

HI. I was on Faslodex with Ibrance for two years. My WBC hovered around 2.3, never getting above 2.8 (It was primarily the Ibrance that caused my counts to get low). My onc was never concerned because I never got sick (thankfully). She said her other patients had similar outcomes. I traveled to Denver a couple of times and Mexico once during the two years.

Enjoy your trip to Japan. Happy to hear your markers dropped.

That's great to hear, thank you! When Japanese people have even a slight cold they wear gauze masks in public so I'll probably be safer than here in Oregon!

And wishing you all the best as you start Xeloda, hope you get at least 2 years out of it!

Thank you! I hope so, too. I'm always especially anxious when I start a new treatment.

Oh, me too. I was a wreck before the first Faslodex shots, turned out to be a non-issue, so far. It’s getting a little easier but anxiety over scans, test results and new treatments can still be hard.

I just don't think that anxiety will ever leave no matter what we do to relax! It's hard facing the unknown. Love, Marianne

Hello 🎀 I have Metastasis in my hip. I'm with Letrozole Ibrance Falsodex Xgeva. My white blood cells fell from the first week. I was really scared. Travel to Ecuador just for Christmas. Take a medical report about my diagnosis and the medicines I am taking (just in case). Take many precautions. Bring sanitization wipes and clean everything you could touch. I sit in the window Try to stay as far away from people as possible. I washed my hands as many times as possible. Only use disposable cutlery. I just did what I thought would prevent a flu. Try to walk through open places. Discard the cinema or theaters And thank God I do not get sick and my globals and other values keep coming down. I only mean that you have to live and enjoy life. Let's just take measures to take care of ourselves. Always ask your doctor for advice Happy day I love this group 🌺🎀

Thanks for the great suggestions! We are on similar medications, I just haven't started Ibrance yet. Maybe in March. I'm glad you had a good trip. I agree that we have to live and do what we want to do, while taking care of ourselves. I lived in Japan for many years and have family there so I am super excited to see them!

Hi, I started on faslodex and ibrance 125 last April. My wbc started at 4.5 dropped to 3.2 in May and then steadily rose and were 4.7 last month. I've had 2 really nasty colds this winter and am absolutely fine. I'm also had 2 foreign holidays in November without problem. Hope this is reassuring. 🙂

I’ve flown across the Atlantic numerous times in the past few years. A plane is a great way to get sick. I’ve been fine. Learned to wipe down the tray as that has a lot of germs on it. Going to Scotland and England in July if all is well. I am going to make another pitch for juicing greens. Good luck w your treatments.

Awesome advise! I also use organic greens and many supplements my newest being essiac tea...they really boost your energy levels and I haven’t had low numbers for a little over 2 years now since I started researching and adding organic everything to my diet! 😂

Macromom enjoy Japan! Take precautions but definitely enjoy! Take some Iron and B12 to get those numbers up and and a little exercise to your day and then go and have fun! I’m planning a Disney trip and my daughter’s wedding in the fall...

-Blessings!

Thank you! I agree about organics and supplements, also eating really nourishing Whole Foods. (Weird....it automatically capitalizes Whole Foods, like they are the only source!). I’ll be staying on an organic farm for several days and plan to relax, walk a lot and having a wonderful time!

Are you in ibrance too?

Not yet though I may start in March after our trip. I declined Ibrance when I started Letrozole in Oct 2017 because I was already so thin and weak. I'm in much better shape now to handle the side effects. Waiting to find out more about a new drug called Aplelisib that's designed specifically for those of us with the PIK3CA mutation. If it's available I would take that instead of Ibrance.

I'm a cool mom, I was in Japan about 10 years ago, had a marvelous time. Hope you get to walk through some bamboo for us and quaint Villages while you are there. So I had an MRI last night. I have been coughing a lot when I go outside with the cold weather and then it escalates to vomiting. This has been going on for about a month now, I stopped taking anastrozole a week ago because it is no longer working. Waiting on approval for verzenio and if that comes through I will take that with a shot of faslodex. If I do not get approved for verzenio through my insurance, I probably will only take faslodex or we will try for ibrance instead. I'm getting anxious about starting my new meds as I am vomiting sometimes twice a day now. But it is usually only when I go out and come back inside, in side, something about the cold-air air. I really don't understand this. Has anyone else had any problem like this? Any suggestions?

I meant hi macro mom, not " I'm a cool Mom." Sorry.

Do you have asthma? Sometimes people with asthma get symptomatic in cold aid w coughing etc

For me the blood count drop is from Ibrance, not Faslodex. I’m usually around 950-1200.

Hi Sandra

It was a long day, but I’m on this new CBD oil and I swear it is keeping me calmer. We’ll see. All went well enough except when I went to get my faslodex shots, they didn’t have me on the roster. My doctors secretary didn’t want anything to do with it and told them not to send me down to her. My doc and her NP are off Fridays. So I started to cry (so much for cbd oil!). I live about 2 hours away and I can’t just come back Monday. The receptionist at the infusion center went out of her way and called management, who got another NP to send the order. ( it was requested, just not sent). So got the shots and went home. The bone scan doc seemed to say I was fine. I’ll find out about my lungs Thursday. Fingers crossed. I am trying not to focus on it. I have never been to Scotland, but I hear it is stunning and cannot wait. We are flying into Edinburgh and then taking a Rabbie’s tour (small group) Of part of the Hebrides, thru the Highlands and out to Orkney. Then down to London and 2 days in Hastings. I have been to London once before and we have a friend around Hastings, which is a nice little town on the English Channel. I really want to see Winston Churchill’s house Chartwell, but seems hard to get to. Thanks for asking and will let you know Thursday ❤️🙏

Your trip sounds wonderful. I have friends in England and want to fly over but concerned that the trip will exhaust me. I fly into London but the trek to Weston super Made is what concerns me. Please let us know about your trip.

Safe travels and do take precautions on the plane, I came down with bronchitis after coming home from Alaska. I didn't even think about getting sick.

Have fun

Robin

Yes I do. I am not going to peek at the patient portal beforehand. My husband does the driving. Even tho I was born, lived and worked in NYC most of my life, I do not have the skill or nerves to drive in Manhattan. My husband is not fazed by it. I miss the city a lot, but too crowded for me now, although my husband would move back in a New York minute (which is less than 15 seconds long). Me, I love summers by the lake in New Hampshire. That and smaller towns are my speed now.
