First Faslodex shots

Well, as usual, my imagination was worse than the shots! I had great nurses who chatted for a while until I was a little less nervous. One side is slightly tender tonight, the other side is fine. Our imagination is the enemy sometimes!

Hi Elaine,

I'm glad everything went well with your first faslodex injections. I think we often fear the unknown, but once we know the drill of what to expect the fear tends to dissipate. I hope your new treatment plan works for a long time to come.

Glad it went well. Yes our minds can do damage😳when I was getting faslodex I would walk around few minutes after, and when I got home sit on heating pad. It helped a lot.♥️

Hi Elaine... next week I’ll get the third round of faslodex shots. The nurses warm up the shots in hot packs. It is a bit painful when it’s going in. I close my eyes and take deep breaths. For some reason my left side hurts more. Before I leave the nurse gives me 2 hot packs and I put them in my pants. Once I get home I lay on my infrared heating pad. I do feel sore for a few days. This is my second line of treatment. Hopefully it will work for a long time! Good luck! Keep us posted.

Best regards, Maria

This is my second line also so I’m hoping for the best! I really had no pain afterward and didn’t do anything special. I’d like to get the same nurses...they were good! Elaine

I'm on my second round. Third round coming up next Wednesday. I was so scared, but the anticipation was definitely greater than the actual event. My nurse does numb the area first, which may help and I have had absolutely no pain. Thank God for small favors, because my Piqray is really doing a number on me and I've had to stop it for three weeks.

I hope your body gets used to your Piqray so that you can get into a stable treatment cycle. I’m glad you are not having trouble with the Faslodex shots either. That was a real relief. I got to skip doing extra doses in the beginning because I was already estrogen suppressed by the Letrozol. I’m happy for that favor!

I was told they can’t numb it first because it goes into muscle. How do they numb you?

They don’t numb mine at all. It really doesn’t hurt to get injected unless they do it wrong and then it hurts then and afterwards. As long as you don’t tense up, you will be okay. They make me balance on one foot and cross the other leg slightly behind me putting no pressure on that leg and then they inject into that cheek. Then I switch and they do the other side. It takes 10 minutes total. I get two tiny round bandaids and I’m off! Elaine

They just spray it on the skin where she's going to give me shot.

Great news! FYI, I try to avoid injection site pain and resultant back pain by doing two crucial things: (1) we ice down the area for ten minutes so it's nice and cold and numb, and (2) the nurse pushes the shot super slow, like 2 full minutes per side. I also ice afterwards for good measure and try not to overwork the muscles. I try to carve out time after to ice and lie down when i get home.

Glad you're having an easy time with it!!

Elaine, I am so glad the shots weren't as bad as expected. That is always a nice surprise. Are you taking anything with the faslodex? Blessings, Hannah

I’m still taking Ibrance as well. It’s two whole days since I had the shots...no side effects whatsoever. A good lesson about worrying about something that doesn’t happen, or as my grandmother would have said, borrowing trouble! Elaine

Hope you get a long run on Faslodex.

I’ve taken these shots every month for more than 18 months and while they are not pleasant, two nurses give me both together and it’s fine! I have a wonderful team at my Cancer center and that really helps a lot!

Hi Red , I also receive Faslodex shots and have them heat them up..you don’t feel the serum going in..because it’s like a thick oil....I refuse to take them any other way...IT sure does help......
