Breast reduction op today during my week off ibrance

Hello ladies! , Just to update you regarding my SURGERY during IBRANCE cycle . I am home from day surgery today after having a breast reduction op to balance my mastectomy side , and I am feeling well at the present time. I had my bloods checked yesterday and they were all ok , so got the go ahead to have the day op today. I finished my third week on ibrance on Sunday , so this was done on my week off ibrance ( but continuing on Letrozole.) The op / general anaesthetic went well and I was allowed home a few hours later. My onc has given me antibiotics and injections to boost my wbc to start 5 days after the op , and I get bloods retested this Friday to see if I am ok for my next months supply of ibrance (my 13th) . I have to rest for 2 weeks , and not exercise for 6 weeks (which I will miss ) but hopefully will be back to walking my 10 year old twin King Charles spaniels shortly . Keeping my fingers crossed for no complications . Love to all the lovely ladies on here x

So far , so good ! I have always eaten a vegetarian balanced diet (non vegan) and I am just pottering round the house in my new Xmas gingerbread man pyjamas ! ... bought as I needed something comfy and front opening .But nothing strenuous! Haven’t yet added any supplements to my diet , but started on 5 days of GCSF injections , which I got my hubby to do , to boost my white blood cells . So all being well , they should be a lot higher when I get my bloods tested on Monday and hopefully I will come home with my next months supply of Ibrance Thank you x

I am transitioning slowly to veggie then vegan diet. Have been remiss with green juice but had one today. Glad you sound better. Take this break to watch old movies and do all that reading that has piled up

Thanks Barb!

Yes , I was pleased I haven’t had to stop the ibrance so far ! I only finished week 3 on Sunday and had the bloods test done on Monday pm and was pleasantly surprised my wbc and neutrophyls were not much different to months when I wait 5/6 days to have bloods tested before ibrance is reissued . I’m feeling ok today , a bit throaty after the general , but I can’t remove the bandages for a while , so haven’t seen the results yet ! But I’m just happy no longer lopsided , and to have taken some weight off the shoulders ! Just have to watch for infection now and start on the antibiotics on Sunday . I also have to give myself injections in the tummy area to boost my wbc from Sunday for 5 days ... which I am not looking forward to! But I hope to get out for walks by the weekend , if my husband takes the dogs... luckily they are over 10 and King Charles , so happy to plod along !

Hope your back pain is easing and that you too can enjoy nature again! Take care x

Lovely that you’re recovering

I only had an implant on one side so I have one old lady boob and a nice young lady boob!!!.. I’m 64 so not fussed and my horse doesn’t care nor does my hubby..I should have done it years ago

I am the same , with only one implant - on my mastectomy (right side), but I decided to go 3/4 cup sizes smaller with the implant as I was too heavy breasted and it gave me back and shoulder aches. So I have had my left side reduced / lifted now to rebalance! ... But for me rather than for anyone else !! x

Hello Barb,

I will be starting my 9th cycle of Ibrance and take anastrozole as well. The breast with the cancer is significantly smaller than the healthy one. My breast surgeon told me that I would likely have one “young” breast and my typical “60 year old lady” breast. I am dreading the lumpectomy, so I do not imagine I will do any more surgery to make me symmetrical, but we’ll see.

Wishing you a quick recovery! Love, Marianne

Hi Teddielottie,

I'm glad your operation went well for you and that you were able to fit it in during your week off. I hope you can get some rest while you continue to recover and that you will soon be able to get back to exercising and the rest of your routine.

Take care,

Sophie x

Thank you Sophie ! Think I am missing the social aspect of my Breast cancer ladies exercise classes (twice weekly ) at local University, in Yorkshire . I have been going for two months now and the small group of around 8 ladies who attend regularly have been very welcoming ( they are all earlier stages Breast cancer but are a nice group of ladies to talk to ). And as a fellow dog walker (of my spaniels ) I am missing the companionship of other local dog walkers . But 🤞will be gentle walking at the weekend . And I am glad you had a lovely trip to Switzerland too !x

You're welcome! Hopefully your recovery time will soon whizz by and you can get back out there with your dogs. My clients' dogs are great therapy for me! Your exercise group sounds friendly and welcoming. I bet they are missing you right now. x

Thanks ! Think it was relief ! Reduction a breeze compared to my mastectomy / axillary clearance and immmediate reconstruction which I had exactly a year ago . Got the go ahead to hubby starting my gcsf injections today for next 5 days and am now taking antibiotics .Hoping for good wbc next Monday so I can continue on the next lot of ibrance. 🤞

Glad you are recovering . I will have scans in November and if i stay the course i was told that i can have surgery . Lumpectomy with breast reduction . Some of my PA"S say to do it and some say that it really doesn't make a differents to leave it as is . I am struggling to make that decision due to always wanting to get a reduction but not knowing if going thru surgery is worth the risk of infection . I still have a ways to go but just wanted to know what made you get surgery or if they gave a choice . I will be on Ibrance for 1 year end of Jan .

Yes I am long fully recovered from the reduction surgery and glad I went ahead with it !

I too had been on Ibrance /Letrozole a year when I had my reduction surgery . My onc and breast surgeon were both very supportive of my decision to have a reduction on my unaffected side , since I was stable and my bloods were good . I was very asymmetrical after my mastectomy as I chose to go for a smaller reconstruction , and I had always had shoulder/ back ache from having heavy breasts. My day surgery and recovery went well generally , however I did get an infection some six weeks after the op ( an infection with ‘spitting’sutures) but antibiotics helped clear it up and I just had to take a week off Ibrance . I would discuss it with the breast surgeon and your onc and see if they think it’s suitable for you at present , given your bloods , whether you are stable etc., and also taking into account the covid situation at the time ! I wish you well with whatever you decide . Take care x
