Valsartan causes cancer

Hi everyone...was wondering if anyone on here with cancer had been taking the blood pressure medicine, Valsartan, that the FDA recalled because it has a carcinogen that causes cancer. I have taken it since 2013, and all of a sudden I have stage 4 breast cancer.

Omg! It’s so scary that we do not know the effects of what we are taking and what is considered “safe”!!!! Look into the matter perhaps with a lawyer!

So sorry for you too. I registered my condition on the FDA website. If you took Valsartan, they have a place to register all about it. Filed all my tests and results, etc. with them. Don’t know how it could ever be proven that the med could be the cause. Just frustrating. Had genetic testing and I am not genetically inclined to have cancer.

I took Valsartan for about a year. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. Going through treatments now. My cancer is her2 nu positive. Had genetic testing which is negative. How do I register my condition to FDA?

I googled the FDA website on internet. If you scroll thru their site, there will be a place to register your problem. I made sure to cover all the info I could remember about when I started the valsartan, dates when my cancer was discovered, dates I had basic testing done that diagnosed the cancer, where I had the testing done, etc. At least it is in their records, in case anything ever comes of it. So sorry for everyone going through this that might not need to be. Prayers for you!

Thanks. I will do that. I don’t know why they would think women taking this medication laced with carcinogens would not develop breast cancer after taking this medication. Thanks

I have taken losartan for years but discontinued use in April a few months after my diagnosis. My BP dropped to 90/60 after I lost 30 lbs. - gave up all sugar and carbs...I wonder if this BP med is related to Valsartan?

I think the losartan is similar to Valsartan, but as yet the FDA has not recalled it. The Valsartan I was taking was produced in China by a company called Solco Healthcare. They originally started making it, and then switched the way it was manufactured. The switch also caused a chemical change in the med that caused it to contain a carcinogen. Such a frustrating situation. Doubt there is any way to prove that my blood pressure med was what caused my cancer.

Glad you are off of your blood pressure pill, but definitely not the way you wanted that to happen. Hopefully your weight did not go down too low.

Drug companies should clearly state for the patient where drugs are manufactured so we at least have a choice. I hope you are compensated for the drug company’s negligence - this shouldn’t happen!

The label on my RX does not indicate manufacturer - I’ll check with Walmart and see if they can tell me where my pills came from. Most of the weight I lost needed to come off. My BMI is in the normal range now but sure do miss my carbs, dairy and meat (and sweets) 😦. I try to follow a Mediterranean diet and eat fish almost daily and organic chicken maybe once a week.

Good luck to all of us on this bumpy road no one wants to be on!

Now they have Losartan on the recall list. I have taken this for 6 years. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer 12cm. Had a bilateral mastectomy in October. I have no family history either. Nor do I have the gene. I'm wondering was this a possible cause as well. How do I find out?

Sad, but as far as I know, there is no way to find out if the pills caused the cancer. Prayers for you in this walk we are going through.
