Skipping dosage
I am so paranoid about taking my meds. My radiologist explained the treatment like this. There are all these little pac men that feed on estrogen, so the first meds which at the time was letrozol blocks them from feeding. And if a few get in then Ibrance will stop them. The meds then start to shrink the tumors. It put this little cartoon in my head. So I never mis a pill that will let those PAC men in HaHa not kidding. It was such a VisiCalc I will never forget it. I would rather be tired because that means the meds are doing s .
I have not skipped dosages on purpose but last year we had been planning a vacation and I asked my oncologist if I could have a little time off Ibrance...such as continuing the week off into two weeks. He said it would be okay and that he understood quality of life is important and wanted me to enjoy the trip. It turned out the vacation plans didn't work out so I did not take the break from Ibrance. But in the future I would do it with my oncologist's okay.
I think I would only see a difference by extending the week off...I don't think missing just a couple of days in the cycle would help, as it takes time to get out of your system.
I have skipped about 5 days on purpose to write my pharmacy board exam(6 hours test). I'm glad it paid off. Though ibrance wasn't 100% effective for me. I'm on IV chemo now, only made the switch 2 weeks ago.
Note: I skipped it about 4 weeks ago, so it had already failed before the skipping without me knowing it.
I’m so sorry ibrance failed you. Where are your Mets??
Thank you dear. I have them in the lymph nodes, lungs, liver, whole of the spine. New ones found on my ribs and hip bone. Also ovaries that was removed was biopsied and found to have them too. It's crazy. I have been hospitalized for 5 days now because my new mediport was infected and causing systemic infections for me.
I’m in the process of taking 2 weeks off instead of the usually 1, onc recommended it because labs worse than usually the last 2 months. I definitely feel better but anxious about not taking the Ibrance.
Just had this conversation yesterday with my oncologist. He told me I could take a drug holiday once in a while. I plan on taking two weeks off in August while away on vacation.
I achieved NED in five months on IBRANCE. He feels confident I can go off occasionally.
Hi marianne88. Hope u r doing ok. Before going off any meds just have a discussion with your doctor. I asked my oncologist if there is a time I can have a break and she seemed to feel unless it was medically needed leave well enough alone. I personally think I would be too freaked out to stop. Stay well.
I was planning on not beginning my new month when I went away for my son's graduation. As it turned out my counts were low anyway and then I was out of state and was not getting a new blood draw, so I had a two week, two day vacation from the drug. But I am with you!!
