For those of you who have been on Letrozole for 3, 4, 5+ years, are you still on the 2.5 dosage? Or did your dosage get lowered?

hi -- I have been on letrozole for nearly 7 years-- no talk of lowering dosage. Have you heard of that? Hope you are well.

I was just curious. It seems like people that go NED could get a lower dose.

Letrozole or the brand name Femara is only available in the 2.5 mg dose so lowering would not be possible. The dosage can be increased up to 7.5 mg for fertility treatments etc but otherwise there is only one standard dose. Take care.

Oh, okay! Thanks. I didn't know that. I thought there was a 1.0 dosage. I don't know where I saw that.

Hi

I've been on Letrozole for almost 3 yrs and I also have a monthly implant of Zoladex to suppress ovary function. I think the length of these types of hormone therapies depend on our age. Once we're in safe Post menopause stage some people come off these treatments as estrogen levels are naturally cut off anyway....but Femara/Letrozole is sometimes continued and I've heard of some people being prescribed it as their main and only medication even after being through menopause.

I'm 53 in a few days...and at my last few meetings with the oncologist she brings up the hormone therapy/age issue and she says I'll keep going with these until around 55 and then "we'll see"....not too sure what that means but hope it answers some of your concerns.

I'm 54 (55 in July). I'm currently taking a break from Zoladex so they can test for menopause and hopefully cease for good. As you have said, letrozole will go on for as long as it is working. Our bodies can produce oestrogen in other ways, not just through the ovaries, and letrozole prevents this from happening.

Thanks.

Good luck with that.

The monthly shots are probably the most bothersome thing of all the meds I take...would n't mind skipping it either.

I'm aware of Estrogen being produced in other ways .....I'm particularly sensitive to things like soya products...I've avoided them long before being diagnosed with cancer. I'm long-term vegetarian....although I do eat some sea food now due to low WBC/RBC.....having soya milk lattes used to set me into hormone overdrive and I'd get 3 periods a month🤪

Take care

I was on it for 7 years until I got my mets dx. I don’t recall ever having the dosage lowered. If you are on it and have NED, that may be a different situation though.

I was on Letrozole along with Lupron injections to put me in menopause for 6 years. For 5 of those years, I was NED. There was never any dose reduction or talk of discontinuing it. My treatment was changed when I developed a new met.

Sane as the others. 3 years 2.5. That’s the standard dose.

Have been on Letrozole(2.5) for seven years and no mention of reduction in dosage. I am 78, so menopause doesn't cause a reduction. Wish you the best. I blame Ibrance for everything, never Letrozole. It's probably both though, but Letrozole has escaped the wrath of Hannah. Blessings, Hannah

Thanks. I’m doing well on it. I was just thinking ahead and wondering if the dosage was ever lowered.

I got almost five years from Letrozole and found it easy to be on. Faslodex was next and I got over 9 years from it and discovered that quite a number of women with MBC got longer from it than from initial Letrozole, or another AI. I'm at 20 years with MBC now but the cancer has become triple negative.
