Hormone Imbalance?

Hey, so this definitely a sensitive one. I went to the doctor's recently and about a sore bump on my left nipple. It's pretty tender and it turns out it's just called a breast bump. Boys in puberty often get it. Thing is, I'm 19 so surely this is a bit late. The doctor didn't really answer any questions or say anything about it. When I looked it up it turns out it's caused by hormone imbalances, usually during puberty but not always. So far okay, it's temporary so no issue. But recently I've lost all labedo. Like, all. Just getting an erection is tough. And it's not from watching too much porn because I don't usually watch any. Do you reckon it's worth getting a blood test for hormone levels? Like, is my testosterone too low??

I would definitely start with a blood test to look at ALL your hormone levels. Note: men produce estrogen and progesterone albeit in much lower levels than women.

Ahh shit okay. That's gonna be real awkward, especially since I'm living w/ parents since Uni ended and they'd have to drive me to the doctors haha. Hopefully I can just say I need to go to the doctors and not explain why. Interesting to know about the estrogen/progesterone stuff though. Thanks for the reply!

My best friend is a male to female transwoman. I have learned so much from her about hormones. She told me that you can do anonymous blood work. It is a little more expensive (versus if you have insurance).

Yes it probably is a bit late for puberty, assume everything else is progressing. Hairy armpits, facial hair etc, these would suggest your hormones are moving along. Could the loss of libido be due to worry ?

I mean, I don't think so. I'm the least worried I have been in ages cus I'm on Summer hols rn so no deadlines or anything. And yeah, I've def got pretty hairy places. Idk, maybe quarantine is just doing weird things to me. I mean, it's made me massively restless and kinda hyperactive cus I'm just stuck inside the house all day every day.

To be honest, I do not think you have anything to be worried about, at the very least nothing sounds urgent. You can wait a while and return to Doc' when you are able, if still concerned.

Relax and look at what you can be doing when this quarantine ends.

If you have no current psychological issues and your libido remains low, a chat with your doctor seems like a good idea.

Low Testosterone is a simple and quick blood test with results in 24 hours. Tell your parents It’s a follow up on the nipple bump. An alternative is to wait a week and at 19 your horniness factor should improve.

There is a possibility that you have a pituitary problem. A pituitary tumour would cause issues with hormone precursors a full hormone test and possibly a pituitary MRI may be the way forward. If there is an issue with your testosterone then get a referral to a good endocrinologist.
