Papworth used to run an ICD support group, they would have a cardiologist there, ICD technicians etc, is this a similar sort of thing?

Hello Lezzers,

If you would like to find out more about the group they have a website here: cambridgeheartbeats.org/

I'll have a look at the website. We wouldn't be able to go at the moment as licence has been lost due to ICD shock!! But if it's an ongoing thing it's something we could be interested in.

Thank you

I had to look up what an ICD was! Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator, which I think we used to call pacemakers even though that's not always accurate. It would be good to spell that out because to don't always all remember all the jargon.

Good luck, but I'm not there yet.

Hi, just a quickie to let you know that ICD's & pacemakers are completely different devices. A pacemaker paces the heart, an ICD corrects abnormal heart rhythms & will give a shock to the heart if it can't correct the rhythm. ICD's can also be set to pace as well but that's not it's primary function. Good to hear you don't need a device yet, finger's crossed 🤞that you never do.

As I wrote, not accurate, but it's still much more understood by the public than ICD (In-Car Diagnostic? Inter City Direct?) unexpanded.

It's a health site so doubtful anyone would think it's anything other than a 'health term' but yes sometimes People don't know the difference between the 2 devices (or various others) so maybe admin could put up some sort of glossary for members to refer to for an explanation.
