My husband had HA last November, STEMI, 1 stent fitted to RCA. Told his LAD is ‘diffusely diseased’ and could not be stented so decided to treat with meds. He’s recovered really well then just started with random pains and tiredness over the last week. Called ambulance yesterday morning and he’s been in cardiology ward ever since, being monitored. Last night he had another episode of pain, and went into shock and the blood test suggests he has had another HA, but they are waiting til tomorrow to do the angiogram when there is a full team in. Not being able to be at the hospital with him is heartbreaking. They haven’t said much in terms of why/where the HA happened but I am concerned it’s either to do with the stent in the right or it’s the LAD and he may need surgery. He’s only 51. Anyone that’s experienced this or has any advice would be welcome.
Possible surgery : My husband had HA... - Sudden Cardiac Ar...
Possible surgery
Awh... I know its a very worrying time. The angio will reveal all... Sometimes if possible the surgeon will perform angioplasty at the same time. I had stent fitted to LAD.. Which is the main one!! My other arteries are also damaged.. But i changed diet, lifestyle etc.. It really does make a difference!!! Good luck.. Stay calm..
Thank you so much, the angiogram today has shown the problem with the original stent - I think it’s called restenosis so they have fitted another stent that’s opened the artery again. I’m just relieved there isn’t another blockage or it was his LAD - as this is diseased the whole way down. Apparently restenosis is quite common within the 1st year of stent being fitted so it somewhat upsets me that this 2nd HA could have been prevented if the NHS allow Routine checks during the first 12 months of anyone having a stent fitted, but at least the HA this time wasn’t a STEMI. Yes I think diet and lifestyle is key - although it’s funny his meals in the hospital have been chips, fried chicken , pies ..... and then the cardiac rehab team come round and encourage the Mediterranean diet !!! Beggars belief but that’s another story eh....thanks for reply and continue to look after yourself
