Has anyone tried hypnotherapy?

Just a thought, I was talking to someone about it last night and I wondered if anyone had given it a try. I understand that rls is a neurological condition but I thought it might alleviate some symptoms.

Hi, Susie, I know several people who have tried it. Before I go any further, are you from the UK, Or the US? It makes a difference with some of the answers. But, the people that I know who have tried it have not had good success. Hypnotherapy is more for behavoiral problems or habits, so it makes sense that we cannot stop a progressive neurological disease with a hypnotic suggestion. That si how a neurologist explained it to me anyway. :o)

Sorry Nightdancer, I kept reminding myself to make sure I stated where I was from as I wrote... then promptly forgot. Ah, far too many senior moments these days. I am from the UK.

I think it doesn't really matter where you are from, but would matter where you live, or where you are currently.

Ok, well I have been looking at web sites for a few minutes- there are the ones trying to sell you hypnosis discs, and then there are the reputable RLS web sites. Hypnotheraoy can ceratinly help you to relax if it takes. some people cannot be hypnotized, of course, because it is one of those things you have to believe in to have it hep you to relax. But it is not going to take your RLS away. It may help, but there is no scientific studies to back it up. also, and I know this for sure, if you have any mental disorders like bipolar, schizophrenia, or disassociative disorders, to name a few, do not try hypnosis unless you are in an actual psychotherapist's office that does hypnosis. It is one of those things we say you can try, but don't expect much. We are all different and react differently to treatments and meds, so who knows? I just do not have any good, reliable reports on hypnosis and RLS. That is over 15 yrs of reading posts, leading support groups, and LOTS of research. etc. :o)

Hi Susie, i tried hypnotherapy a few years back, i did help me relax and gave me a more positive outlook and a little itsy bit more sleep, but it didnt last and it cost loads of money my RLS is still there... Hypnotherapy doesnt send you to sleep, it just relaxes you enough to whatever the hypnotherapist tells you is supposed to seep into your brain, dont know the proper term for it.

I wasn't asking so much for myself as out of curiosity.. I tried hypnotherapy some years ago for something else but I don't think I am hypnotizable.... if that's a word. Also, as you said Elisse, very expensive too.
