RLS-UK - consider joining

I joined RLS-UK last week and I have to say what a jolly good idea it was. Lots of very helpful info, succinctly put, about RLS and PLMD, symptoms, treatments, meds, side effects and more. Of course, that info is available here from the amazing members of this forum but it’s all there in order rather than looking through member posts (which I’m not dissing in anyway). It was especially good to read of successful campaigning towards getting the NHS & NICE up to speed with RLS/PLMD. So if you’ve thought about joining or not, for £15 per year, I’d say it’s worth joining the campaign. Just sayin.’

And you don't have to join to see the information at rls-uk.org/ But I do encourage everyone to join for the reasons Chris points out.

True enough. But if more people who feel that they benefit - from this RLS UK administered forum, or from the campaigning done by RLS-UK, or the info on the RLS-UK website and social media - could become members of RLS-UK the charity could do and achieve even more to advance the fight for better education, training and treatment of RLS.

I say this as someone who has got so much from RLS-UK over the last 5 years: after 40+ years of periodic torture I can live without RLS symptoms and - fortunately, as I never took a DA - without RLS medication

Thanks for joining.

As you say, RLS-UK have campaigned to get NICE and the NHS to update their guidance on RLS, to get the RCGP to add RLS to GP's education, to publicise the risks linked to dopamine agonists, and generally to raise the profile of RLS.

RLS-UK also administer this forum which has helped thousands of sufferers over the years.

RLS-UK also make lots of information freely available on their website and in other media.

As it says on the website, RLS-UK is a small - but growing - charity run by volunteers and depends on members (and their membership fees) to function. The membership fee is £15 per year. In return, members receive:

"- Our twice-yearly RLS-UK Newsletter with details of the charity's developments and articles written by medical practitioners who have a specific interest in RLS.

- The RLS-UK Medical Alert Card, which can be presented at restaurants, cinemas and airports when requesting seating.

Invitations to participate in focus groups (if you have opted-in to this in your Membership Form).

- An invitation to our Annual General Meeting where guest speakers and specialists discuss RLS. The AGM is also a great opportunity to meet other people living with RLS.

- The knowledge that you are part of a group of people who want to help raise awareness of RLS and share your experiences, tips etc with each other"

I have been a member of RLS/UK for years now & I would urge everyone to become members.I have had so much help over the years from our Chairman & others on the Committee. I attended an RLS/European workshop in London which was incredibly interesting & helpful.

There is also a yearly AGM you can attend (in person & online).

Do join us if you can.
