While searching the internet for information about RLS / PLMD, I came across Christine’s YouTube channel. Christine got the idea to purchase a motion camera to see how she was sleeping at night. During her sleep, her legs move uncontrollably and spontaneously, and she is in pain as well. Her video recordings helped me a lot to confirm my RLS diagnosis. They are also a great help in showing other people what someone with RLS / PLMD is going through and the suffering they experience. Christine is in a sleep laboratory this week and will hopefully soon receive the right medication and help for this debilitating condition. ❤️

My goodness. It certainly does and a great idea to show one's doctor.

Hopefully they'll follow the Mayo Clinic Algorithm and treat her properly.

Good heavens above! No wonder people like us are exhausted and our legs sometimes ache like we’ve hiked 10 miles over night.

I used my surveillance camera to capture my sleep after I was diagnosed with RLS. It was horrible to see how I’m suffering and also realized I had not just RLS, but PLMD as well.

Well, the suffering sucks, but I applaud Christine for her bravery in sharing & informing about RLS and PLMD.

Myself, I remember being impressed and shocked back in 2000 when I saw the report from my very first sleep study. I had gone to see a sleep psychologist & he was sure what I was describing was RLS, but he wanted to check for PLMD as well - below is what shocked me - I had never suspected it was going on, I just knew I didn’t sleep well:

”There were 379 PLMs with an index of 62.9. The PLMs were severe in nature. There were 27 awakenings and 159 arousals. 2 of the arousals were associated with respiratory events, 13 were spontaneous in nature and 144 were associated with PLMs.”

I’m also impressed & pleased that folks (Christine & also those commenting here) are using infrared cameras to record nighttime events. My RLS and PLMD are mostly under control now with meds, but I also have apnea that occurs when I sleep on my back; since I am pretty happy sleeping on my sides, my apnea specialist approved “positional therapy” for me, a.k.a. using a harness with a ball in a pocket on the back to discourage rolling onto my back when asleep; and I got the idea that to check on how the harness is working for me, I could use an infrared field camera. Works like a charm. You can set it for still photos every X minutes so as not to have to speed through an entire video; I use every 3 minutes. Pretty cool that we have this technology available for our own self-help efforts.
