Anti depressants

Hi everyone, just wanting clarification on antidepressants. I'vee stopped taking Citalopram, as it seems to make my legs worse. I have asked my Doctor for Trazadone (not sure of spelling) but she is reluctant, as they can make you drowsy and as I'm on gabapentin which can do the same, altho doesnt seem to with me, she doesn't want to prescribe them for me. Sue can you help, as I'm sure you suggested another but I can't find the post. Many thanks

Safe anti depressants are trazodone, wellbutrin and some find Vortioxetine is fine. And you can use trazodone with gabapentin.

And trazodone is sedating but if you don't experience excessive sedation on gabapentin, I don't know why your GP won't consider it.

It's certainly a lot better for RLS than the SSRI and SNRI anti depressants. If she won't consider it, you'll have to see a neurologist privately and ask them to prescribe it.

Good luck.

Thanks Jooksg, I will speak with her on Friday. She hasn't said she wouldn't, she is just worried the 2 together, if I was drowsy on Gabapentin, but I have said it didn't make me drowsy, which it doesn't, some nights I don't sleep at all as my body clock is used to being awake till all's hours. Thanks again.

The other one is Wellbutrin.

You could emphasize to her that you you aren't drowsy on gabapentin. and some nights you don't sleep at all. And Citalopram can make one drowsy so you might mention that too.

Doesn't citalopram make RLS worse? I had to stop taking it after 7 years because it did.

yes it does, hence why I stopped taking it, it wasn't prescribed by my own Doctor but another GP, its so hard to get to see your own Doctor with so many people coming to the Island now sadly.

Yes it does. I was just saying that because the doctor didn't want to prescribe trazodone because it might make her drowsy but had prescribed citalopram.

gotcha. I thought it sounded like you were suggesting it so she could sleep.
