has anyone used trazadone for RLS relief or at least help with insomnia from RLS? Can trazadone cause RLS (I’ve read somewhere it would induce)?
trazadone: has anyone used trazadone... - Restless Legs Syn...
trazadone
My husband uses Trazadone and he seems to fall asleep within 10 minutes most of the time. He also uses Bayer Back and Body and it seems to relieve some of the symptoms of RLS. He is 86 and has very bad RLS
Trazadone is considered safe for RLS and helps with sleep. At high doses it has an antidepressant effect
"Trazodone and Bupropion are both RLS safe" RLS-UK
"Sedating antidepressants such as trazodone, nefazodone, and doxepin do not seem to aggravate periodic limb movements." Kolla et al in Sleep Medicine Reviews 2018
However I also note this 2022 case study "Restless Legs Syndrome Due to the Use of Trazodone"
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/353...
But the latter is only reporting on one case....
As others have said it helps with insomnia. It also helps anxiety and is one of the only two antidepressants considered safe for RLS. There are also a few reports of it helping RLS.
My RLS is currently controlled by Rotigotin 2mg.I was prescribed Trazodone 50mg for Insomnia without success but experienced RLS symptoms an hour after increasing to 100mg. Discontinued Trazodone after a week.
Trazadone has some pretty serious side effects like suicidal thoughts and actions. I liked the sound of it but I don't trust myself to try it. You need a strong support team. It's described as an anti depressant.. When my RLS is inactive I tend to lie awake worrying about the world. Particularly what the world is going to be like for my children and now my grandchildren. Is that depression or reality?
