I've never tried doxepin, but it is a tricyclic antidepressant and hence may make RLS/PMD worse, particularly, I believe PLMD.

I haven't tried Trazadone either, but it's often mentioned as being RLS safe.

Thanks, Manerva.

In addition, if you live in the US, bupropion, (Wellbutrin) is supposed to be good for RLS.

Incidentally, I note you wrote that you have secondary RLS. I wonder then what's the primary cause?

The RLS is so minor and rare I would not treat it if that was the only problem. My mother had significant PLMD. I figure that is the reason. I don't take other meds.

If your mother had PLMD which goes along with RLS, then your RLS is not "secondary", it's "primary."

Secondary means it has some other underlying condition, e.g. anaemia. In that case if the underlying condition can be reversed, it will "cure" the RLS.

Primary (inherited) RLS is incurable.

In which case, your RLS will be aggravated by anything which is known to trigger RLS, including most antidepressants.

PLMD and RLS have more or less the same causes and triggers and the same treatments. Literature on the treatment of RLS often says RLS/PLMD.

The remedies used for RLS will treat PLMD and vice versa.
