I've come off Pram (by slicing my last pill in half) and am now on Gabapentin 300, after a useful discussion with my GP two days ago, and I've had a blood sample taken to find my ferritin level. Plus I've started taking Magnesium at 375 as an experiment to see if it can affect RLS. I'll report back.

Great.

Make sure to take the magnesium at least 3 hrs apart from the Gabapentin.

That's great. Not easy I know to come off pramipexole but you did it.

Following my earlier post I can follow up by adding that (a) I seem to have, through experimentation, arrived at a stable regime of one Gab300 at 5pm and another at 9pm, which seems to stop RLS and possibly also PLMS; and (b) my ferritin level is 131ng/ml, which seems satisfactory in the opinion of our GP, in whom we have a lot of confidence arising from past consultations. So unless and until things change as I get older that's where I'll stay. But it does seem to me to illustrate the need for each sufferer to be prepared to experiment, taking nothing for granted except the wisdom arising from shared experience.

Normally one would take the full dose of 600 mg 1 to 2 hours before bedtime but if it is working for you the way you are taking it, that is great !😀

I too was taking magnesium with my other meds, was going great until my doctor prescribed Ezetimibe for cholesterol, it was horrific the 2nd day after taking them and lasted for 4 days ,20 hours a day .I immediately took myself off them, but the affect lasted another 24 hours. pramipexole with tramadol, works very well for me, no augmentation as yet, been on them over 15 years

Whether because I started on Gabapentin and Magnesium around the same time, or maybe just through the natural ageing process, my RLS seems to have disappeared (or perhaps only gone into remission?) I have not taken any Gaba for about a month, am still taking Magnesium, and have no RLS symptoms. Luckier than many, I know. Has anyone else observed this effect?

Yep, there’s something about magnesium that works. I’m guessing that it up-regulates our lousy receptors which to me is the ultimate goal. What was your pre-Prami RLS like? You’ve been off the DA for three months now so maybe your dopamine receptors have returned to baseline? Why were you prescribed a DA in first place? What other meds were you on when starting the DA?

Not what you're looking for?
