I started taking melatonin a month ago to try and improve my sleep. At the time my rls symptoms had totally stopped following an iron infusion. However, prior to actually starting the melatonin, they came back mildly. Having been on the melatonin for a month, they seem worse and rls is listed as a rare side effect. Has anyone experienced melatonin and it’s effect or non effect on the rls?

Melatonin
Melatonin makes RLS worse for most people because it lowers the amount of dopamine in the brain.
It's a very common side effect of melatonin. Melatonin should be avoided completely if you have RLS.
It made my RLS worse - permanently.
Melatonin made my RLS the worst it's ever been instead of just in my legs it was in my legs my back my arms my shoulder and my neck. I would not take a single melatonin pill for $1,000.
Many thanks for all replies, it sounds as though some of you had a really bad time with it. I’ve stopped it as of last night (was on 2mg) and had a bad night with rls, but am assuming I didn’t need to ‘taper’ down? It was recommended by a neurologist😫 I had an iron infusion 5 months ago and am wondering if my levels have dropped. I’ll do a separate post about that.
I took it for a long time but only 0.25 mg. A sublingual tablet cut into 4 pieces. It can help initiate sleep. I've had better luck with Ashwagandha and L-theanine supplements.
yup melatonin made my RLS worse too.
