Paying for Horizant

Arbor Pharmaceuticals, the maker of Horizant, has a patient assistance program. If you're in the US you could be paying $55 a month (plus shipping) by applying to them directly. You can be on Medicare and still get this benefit. None of the cost is reimbursable by Medicare or any other insurance program. You can call 844-289-3981 for more info. Your doctor must submit the prescription directly to Truax Patients Services. Here are the steps listed on the website [arborpatientdirect.com/];

There are 2 easy steps: 1) You or your doctor sends your prescription to Truax Patient Services electronically, by mail, or via fax. 2) Your medications are delivered to your door. You can call 844-289-3981 to inquire about your prescription.

To submit a prescription, your doctor may choose one of the following options:

E-prescription

Truax Patient Services

Bemidji, MN 56601

NCPDP# 2431461

NPI# 1700149096

Surescripts# 169851

Fax

218-444-2267

Phone

844-289-3981

At $55 a month this is much more expensive than gabapentin, but if gabapentin stops working this is another option.

I believe the $55 is for 300mg, the starting dose, so if one needs a higher dosage, will they charge $110 for 600mg or are all bets off after the $55/300mg. Do you know?

The website makes it sound like $55 was the maximum payment, but I haven't gotten into it and don't know for sure. Did you try it?

I take 600mg twice per day. Ask your doctor if they could help with the cost. They get 300mg and 600mg samples and 5 come in a bottle. If he gave you a six pack (that’s how they come wrapped. Six little bottles plastic wrapped together. Just ask if you could have some each month to help with the costs. I’m betting horizant isn’t the only pill you take so every penny helps! That’s 30 pills a month plus now you’re only paying for half!! Prob $55. Talk to your doc.

I take 600 mg and pay $110 per month. I have been taking it for a year. Was on 1200 mg of Gabapentin before. Not sure of results but I was desperate and was willing to try something new. I might try going back to Gabapentin due to the cost. It does not make me sleepy.

Per their terms and conditions: "Cash-paying patients can pay as little as $55 for 30 tablets"

Horizant lasts 24 hours and is warranted if one has symptoms during the day. If gabapentin doesn't work, it is unlikely that Horizant would work since it is a prodrug of gabapentin. Although one could always try it.

The doc said Horizant would work after gabapentin didn't, due to being absorbed differently. I got a free sample and it knocked me out. 600 mg was too much. Something to keep in mind.

Oh!!! Your doc should have started you out at 600mg per day. (300mg morning and 300mg at bedtime) When I first went on it to try like you because I couldn’t take straight gabapentin or even Lyrica. It took me about 5 or 6 days of taking it before I noticed it had started helping. The side effects I have are similar to the other brands except they are not as bad. Gabapentin, lyrica and horizant give me adema. It’s the worst with gabby. I’m rarely ever on here. I just happened to be holding my phone but it never rang on my end. 🤷‍♀️

Ah, that figures. He didn't bother with dosing instructions. I no longer see that doc and I'm in a waiting period for a different one.

The new doc? I found him by visiting the RLS foundation web page; rls.org/treatment/find-a-he....

There is no reason to divide the doses since it works 24 hours.

Yep! Mine however costs me $120 per month. I take 1200mg per day. It is discounted but $120 for one script is a lot for someone on disability. If it were my only script it would be different. For my personal situation. everyone is on different dosages. No two people are the same. Some side effects I don’t have but you might.
