Hi everyone, my name is Gill I'm 48 and have s suffered from RLS since I was 40.

I have been ill recently with what I can only describe as chronic fatigue, along with widespread pain, stomach upsets, memory loss, and severe RL.

All blood tests have come back as 'normal' surprise surprise, I am waiting on an ultrasound on my stomach but not expecting anything to show up there either

My orthopaedic doctor is referring me to a rheumatologist as he thinks I may have some RA , I have OA in my knees, hands and feet .

I am at my wits end with all this but mainly so with the RL, I know you will all know how this feels, my doctor put me on ampitripaline 6 days ago I was hoping this would relieve some symptoms but to no avail.

This condition is debilitating 😪

Hello, just read your posting. Have you found that since taking the amitriptyline your RLS has worsened? On the rls-uk website this drug is listed as one of the medications to avoid. Very few sufferers can tolerate this drug. rls-uk.org/treatment

In amongst all the bloods tests you had recently were your ferritin levels tested? For RLS sufferers the level should be much higher than what is usually considered as "normal".

Hi Kaarina, thanks for your reply.

I have only been on them since Friday, Friday night was absolutely hell, but would it have effected me after just one dose?

My neighbour gave me a 5mg of diazepam on Saturday which was greatly appreciated as my legs were in such pain by this time, which worked well.

I was on tramadol for 7 year, then codiene for 3 then tramadol again recently which doesn't work for my pain, then Friday was given amitriptyline.

I was also on venlafaxine but I stopped taking them I noticed they too were on the list of medications that may make it worse.

I have and I feel terrible for admitting this but I can feel it starting again ( I also get it in my arms) just had a swig of my husbands oramorph as that eases it greatly .

I am not sure about the bloods I will ask my doctor thankyou .

Sorry forgot to mention that with all my symptoms fibromyalgia has been mentioned by both the hostipal and my GP, but will have to rule out everything else before they will diagnose.

RLS is a symptom of that so I believe

Hi Gill

A lot of people can have both Fibro and RLS.

Just same for me but morphine is for pain not RLS but if it works go for it think it's just knocking you out

Amitriptyline can cause problems straight away or within an hour or 2 of taking it. I was put on it for back pain and worked out pretty quickly that it was sending my RLS into overdrive . sleeping meds do the same as well as decongestants like Pseudoephedrine

We did a lot of research into RLS a few years back when I became aware of my husband's symptoms at night time. During the middle of the night his legs would start cramping, so much so that I thought he must have been dreaming of running a marathon, or running away. After investigating, we started with the Epsom salt baths and had some relief. Epsom salts are form of magnesium. We then tried magnesium spray and that offered short term relief. We started taking magnesium citrate instead as the doses are higher. Since then my husband has had consistent long term relief from within about 10 days of taking the magnesium which he takes last thing at night. He takes 200mg to 400mg every night and has done so for over 3 years. Magnesium also helps with getting a good night sleep. Both of us take it now and it totally lessens any aches and pains one gets on wakening. I have touches of OA. Hope this is of help to you.

Hudson48 the oramorph definitely does not knock me out just eases the RL greatly I always say it would take a horse tranquilliser to knock me out LOL.

Interesting to hear amitriptyline works for you I'll have a chat with doctor on Wednesday see what she says .

I'll look into the magnesium spray thankyou God anything is worth a try
