Report on deep tissue massage gun.

After reading how the deep tissue massage gun has helped some, I decided to buy one. It seems to help me. Unbelieveable. I use it at night around 7 for a couple of minutes before rls sets in. Most nights I use it I do not get rls. I cannot believe it. I recommend it.

Good to hear!

I'm about to sell mine on as I don't use it anymore. My RLS is now under control with meds but it was a useful distraction when I had RLS at night.

How much are they

Around £30 on Amazon. This is the one I used. You can buy more expensive deep tissue guns & lorri may be referring to those. It didn't stop my RLS but it certainly helped distract me from the creepy crawlies.

Hi joolsg is it worth the expense?Over the years ivy spent a fortune on cures to no avail inc a tens machine that cost over £100

Me too! I have bought everything recommended in the hope it would help. It doesn't stop the RLS at all for me but it did provide distraction. But, I got the same distraction whacking my legs with a piece of wood, The pain was better than the deep creepy crawlies. So, in conclusion, as it didn't stop the RLS, no, don't spend more money.I don't need distraction anymore as , for now, my RLS is totally controlled by buprenorphine.

Hello Joolsg. You probably remember that I have been in touch with you before mainly re. Temgesic. Th update is that I have gradually increased to three tabs (600mcg) and am still having disturbed nights. I seem to be unable to sleep more than 90min. before rls kicks in. The symptoms are easier in the day though, instead of all day I can go through nearly always to about 9pm. I am wondering though if the actual buprenorphine would be better than the Temgesic as so many people including yourself have had complete respite from their rls which is what I am looking for of course and just not getting yet. Dr. Bagary is ringing on Monday and I think I may suggest this to him also I wonder whether an iron infusion would help me as my iron levels were very average last time I had a blood test. So glad that you are completely free of the dreadful condition, Iwill have to keep on fighting it a bit longer. Any advice always gratefully received.

Dear Bedith, so sorry the Temgesic is not yet covering your symptoms at night. Trmgesic IS buprenorphine, so switching will not make a difference. If you are tolerating the Temgesic/buprenorphine well, you may consider ask for an increase of your dose. From the updated guidelines in The Mayo Clinic Proceedings (table 4) the average effective total daily dose is 0.5-6.0mg. So you are still at the very low end.

Your note about iron is interesting, I hope apart from the usual values, also ferritin and transferrin saturation were assessed. They may guide whether taking iron or even an iron infusion might be helpful. See also the guidelines.

I hope you find better relief soon.

Hi Bedith,I agree with Lotte. Buprenorphine and Temgesic are the same drug. You may need to increase the dose to 0.6mg as Lotte suggests.

And definitely check the iron levels as increasing serum ferritin above 100 and serum iron above 60 will make a difference.

I know tramadol stopped working but just want to check you're not on other meds that may be triggering the RLS. Are you on anti depressants ( including Amitriptyline), sedating anti histamines ( cough & cold meds), statins, beta blockers, PPI gastric meds?

Definitely speak to Dr Bagary and explain that the dose is not covering your symptoms.

Can I also check that you're dissolving them under your tongue? They don't work if swallowed like other pills.

I hope you can get some sleep by adjusting the dose and raising ferritin.

Jools

Hello Joolsg. Thank you for your reply. I am not taking any of the medications you mention. The only other thing I have gone back to after weaning off them is Temazepam, because it is the only way I can get some sleep. I do let the Temgesic dissolve under my tongue so I am taking them the correct way, so I suppose I am just not on a high enough dose yet. I hope I won’t need to go as high as 6mg because as Temgesic are in mcg that would mean a ridiculous amount of tablets to take unless I have calculated that wrongly. Do you mind telling me Joolsg how much buprenorphine you take? Thanks for your help.

Not 6mg. 0.6mg. That is the average temgesic/Buprenorphine dose.Really hope it helps.

Thanks for your help Joolsg, in the Mayo clinic proceedings table four it does say faverage dose can be 0.5mg to 6 mg .

Correct Bedith. It means you are still on the lower end. I think Joolsg referred to the information form dr Winkelman's opioid registry. Have a look at the results:

I have a very similar one and I use it a lot. It helps to relax my legs for long enough to tip me into sleep. It’s not much use on really bad nights but certainly not a waste of money.

I try to use it before rls starts and it helps. I can't believe it. I'm almost afraid to talk about it.

So happy you found something innocuous that works!! I can’t vouch for the massage guns because I’ve never tried them, but for anyone interested, Costco has several, and their fancy one with both hot and cold options happens to be on sale right now for $40 off, making the gun $119.99 (that includes shipping and handling-I’m sure Europe is extra though). Costco is great for their return policy so if you find it doesn’t work for you, you can return it. They have a big selection ranging from $69.99 to the most expensive one, which is the one currently on sale.

What brand and model did you use? I used the Relaxis pad for about 5 months and that helped me to reduce my Pramipexole down to the then-minimum my doc wanted me to stay on. I no longer can tolerate the full lower body vibration of that device. While I'm off Pramipexole now and on Horizant instead (fairly successfully), I've started to get horrid leg cramps periodically at night unrelated to RLS (I think, as does my doc). So I'd love something other than (successfully) applying a 50/50 THC/CBD cream to take with me when traveling to places where THC use is illegal.
