repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation - an update

I concluded repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) therapy just over two months ago.

Unfortunately it doesn’t appear to have been effective for my Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD).

I had 27 consecutive sessions (2 were high frequency, the remaining 25 were low frequency pulses delivered over the motor cortex).

I maintained my medication regime of 300mg pregabalin and 0.25mg – 0.5mg clonazepam throughout.

There appeared to be a worsening of symptoms during therapy and possibly afterwards however things seem to have settled back to around where they were prior to commencing therapy.

I’m disappointed in that it didn’t work given that the few studies I’d read of looked very promising.

I was really hoping for a drug-free approach to managing my PLMD.

This post isn't intended to discourage anyone from trying it out for themselves.

Onwards and upwards!

Thanks so much for the update Amrob. I'm sorry it didn't work for you. It seems to confirm what we know about RLS so far- we are all different and respond differently to the available treatments.

Thanks too. And sorry too that it didn't work. I hope the pregabalin continues to work with the occasional clonazepam. Keep in touch'

Really appreciate your posting, Amrob. Commiserations on the outcome. I admire your open attitude.
