What a journey this has been !

There have been lots of amazing Doctors and Professor that have been part of this journey.

Firstly I want to acknowledge some of these Rock star professionals who have actually cared and gone way beyond to help me.

Thanks and gratitude to

Dr Zac Turner and public figure Sydney

Dr Glen z Brooks NY

Dr Colin Rigg Brisbane city

Dr Tim Amos Brisbane City

Dr Jeremy Hayllar Clinical Director Brisbane

Professor Richard P Allen John Hopkins USA

Professor John Winkleman Boston

Professor David J Nutt UK

Dr Sara Benjamin John Hopkins

Thank you to a very special team

My HealthUnlocked family the giving of your time the hours that you spend supporting and answering questions I know you all other a life outside of RLS and yet here you are day after day giving of yourselves in the hope that you may bring comfort, help, support and maybe say one thing that can make a difference to another soul.

You truly are an amazing bunch of people

Thank you 🙏 from the bottom of my heart 💓

My prescription has NOW been filled in Brisbane Brand name is Subutex when I collected my script the head pharmacist had a totally different attitude

He said they have increased their monthly order to ensure I have no more issues and that Dr Jeremy Hayllar letter has been added to my file and they must comply with his prescribing orders.

Dr Jeremy Hayllar said that approximately every 3 weeks he prescribes Buprenorphine/ sublingual for other conditions . I asked him 2 questions

Can I put my name to anything I write regarding prescribing buprenorphine for RLS - YES

Are you happy to help other people to access Buprenorphine/ Subutex for for refractory

RLS -ABSOLUTELY.

Those in Australia you can ask your GP to contact Dr Jeremy and ask him who you should be speaking to in your local area regarding accessing SUBUTEX sublingual 2mg

(some people may need more or less )

Other people I am currently helping are having withdrawal issues from Kratom and tramadol whilst they are they have started buprenorphine they will not see the true result until this time passes. You will see these stories shortly as they are part of our family.

Restless Legs Syndrome Australia NZ Facebook group said indeed there are others on buprenorphine / Subutex in the form Norspan

patch in Australia.

I my personal experience and chatting to others using buprenorphine the sublingual form is easier to tailor a dose and minimise initial side effects I do not sleeping pills etc

I am expecting an email from Professor Winkelman this week I will share if of use.

I am currently working on accessing buprenorphine for the good people in the UK.

If you are in theUK and you have an understanding caring GP you may like to try this hack ask for a referral for THE OAD Clinic in London I have read they are one of the few clinics prescribing Buprenorphine.

If you are in Japan you can access buprenorphine in suppository form only.

DR Glen Brooks said

REALLY IMPORTANT

Buprenorphine prescription must be SINGULAR nothing added or it will NOT WORK.

I NOW FEEL SECURE - I’m glad that part of my journey is over.

Not only can I sleep peacefully at night

I have pathed the way for my 5 other family members who suffer from RLS and helped a few other peeps.

Ps another hack can be to ask for a private script I am not sure what countries that applies to however it does in Australia.

Jumping for joy 🤸‍♂️

It’s a wrap !

😃

Hey Nlthomp. Just checking in on you to see if the Buprenorphine is helping you sleep? I hope it’s helping you through this rough patch.

Well... it’s 4am and I’m on the forum 😳 I’m going through an adjustment period and dealing with side effects, Jimbo. I’ve had one really good night, where I was out like a light. The first night, last Wednesday was the worst. Thursday, not so great. Strangely enough Friday night was great, so I thought that was a turning point... but Saturday night was a struggle. Tonight, for the most part is OK. Now I’m dealing with insomnia, another side effect of this drug. As with all medication, each person reacts differently and it takes time and patience to determine the correct dose.

I’m also having trouble with nausea and headaches. Dr. Brooks tells me that side effects usually subside within a week or so. There is another form of buprenorphine that is available in lower doses and supposedly is easier on the stomach. It’s much more expensive, though I’m not sure by how much.

Thanks for checking in, Jimbo. How is your RLS and resulting anxiety? Are you still taking Gabapentin?

Hi there. I’m so sorry that you are having to go through an adjustment period with the buprenorphine. I was hoping it was going to be a silver bullet for you. Hopefully with time the side effects will subside and you’ll be able to get some consistent sleep. Please keep us posted.

Yes, I’m still taking 1200mg of Gabapentin. I’m doing just ok on it. I average 5 or so hours per night, which could be worse for sure. But could be better. The anxiety and depression follows my sleep pattern. If I’m able to string together a few decent nights I do quite well during the day. If I get consecutive nights of poor sleep the anxiety and depression starts to creep in. I’m sure it’s that way for a lot of folks on here.

I’ve just last week met with a Hematologist about the possibility of an iron transfusion. I’m hoping to give that a try and see if it gives me any relief. I’ll keep you posted as well.

I’m really hoping to hear you’ve turned a corner here soon. The transitions from drug to drug can be so tricky. Talk to you soon.

Amazing! I hope your good nights continue. I fear it will be a long time before it becomes available in my area, our gps are well behind the times, but while there’s life there’s hope.......or so they say. 🙂

I’ve been taking Tramadol for 10 years now. Started with 50mg and for the last 4 years I’ve been taking 200mg with good results. I live is The states and have moved to Wisconsin where my doctor at first wouldn’t even write me a prescription for Tramadol. After visiting my third doctor who would do it but she wanted me to try 150mg instead of the 200mg I was taking. I said I’d try that but so far after 20 days it’s just not working. I’m hoping when I see her again and tell her it’s not working that she will give me the 200mg that I requested. My wife says it’s costing us money buying new sheets because my leg movement is wearing them out. When you finally find something that works why do doctors want to mess with it. When your almost 80 I don’t want to here that I might get dependent on some drug - who cares just help me.

From what I am hearing from both patients and doctors, the sublingual form actually has more side effects than other forms, but the other forms (film, etc.) are cost prohibitive.

Well done and Thank you Shumbah. The OAD clinic is an addiction clinic in London ( I’ll need to check if it’s private) so not sure if we can access it via NHS. But very helpful info.
