Buprenorphine for OCD

Wow I just reading study that professor Nutt took part in .

Buprenorphine for refractory OCD !

Again this is only low doses when the required effect was achieved it does not need increasing.

Patient doses range from 1 x 200 mcg Some on 2mg once or twice daily ,6mg divided in to 3 doses during the day is the top dose.

Higher doses did not improve symptoms.

One lady achieved great success on only

200 mcg Temgesic

Another finding is buprenorphine with Naloxone Worsens OCD Dr Brooks says the same for RLS .

They stopped the medication after 3 days of it working, symptoms were back within 3 days and on recommencing the buprenorphine symptoms subsided. The patients in this study where very severe whilst it was not total illumination of symptoms in some the patients buprenorphine was life changing and gave the patients their life back.

The more I learn about buprenorphine and the safety of this medication the more fascinated I become .

Dr Brooks gets good results using Buprenorphine for patients over 50 with severe depression

You mentioned some on 200mg. Is that a typing mistake.

Thanks Jules 🌸

200 would be a fertiliser bag full

I guess that would work if I dropped it on my head 😂

Ps I was thinking what are you doing up but it’s only just after 11 where you are. It’s me who’s being naughty 😄

Hi Shumbha

Thanks for sharing this.

Wondering how you are doing on Buprenorphine? Do you take a dose just at night? How are you though the day?

Hi Jane

The buprenorphine gives me 24 hour a day coverage finally I feel normal .

What is very interesting after 16 years on blood pressure medication my BP has returned to normal and after close monitoring my GP stopped my BP meds . Just shows what sleep means to our bodies

Kester 🙂

Oh my you are so right.

Congratulations you have worked so hard to reach this space.

If I knew you I'd say I'm really proud of you. But I dont really apart from some contact on this site. But I can still say it because you have done such an amazing thing raising awareness of the possibilities of some meds out there. Soldiering on when medics wouldn't listen. You have singlehandedly got the wheels in motion to begin to make life livable again for many people.

We need to carry on your work and raise awareness with our GPs and specialists.

Thank you ♥️

Hi I have just taken many first dose of Buprenorphine 200 micrograms I finally got my doctor to prescribe . He recently took me off rotogine patchs to put me on pregablin it's been a nitemare 2 weeks I was told on here that he shouldn't have done that and I should have been weaned off . I was also on tramadol slow release and pramiprexole . I started back on patch a week ago and gradually cut it down . It did actually work for me in first place but I was allergic to the glue so had to stop . How long will it take for buprnorphine to kick in ? I'm laying here with legs still going mad . Doctor said to not take the tramadol but continue for now with pramiprexole which I had also nearly come off and the pregablin which I've only been on for 2 weeks . It's so frustrating and complicated with all the pills I've been on . If u can help I would be grateful

Palamino,

So sorry for my tardy reply

200 mcg is very very low you probably need to increase your dose .

200mcg is about 1 tenth of my prescribed dose 2mg

I take less than I was prescribed 1mg unless I exercise then Ineed 2 mg

Start taking one earlier in the afternoon then another before you go to bed it works very quickly and you can keep increasing until your legs stop.

Most people would need to take 5 x 200 mcg tabletsto get to 1mg

Not all at oncethey need to be spaced out

Kind regards Kester

Hi thank you wow that's alot more than I thought do the studies say that much its just hard talking ur doctor into giving it to u then taking way more than I think he would prescribe ..possibly . I have taken 2 one earlier and one later at the moment its bearable but I'm stil coming off pregablin then I've got pramiprexole to get off although I was nearly off that already when I had the rotigine patch which worked but I was allergic to glue so had to stop . Thank you for your help

It’s a lot because it’s micrograms which is minuscule.

What country are r u in ?

Congratulations I think you are the first person that I know of in the UK on Buprenorphine 👏

I lived in Bromsgrove in the West Midlands for nearly 13 years I loved it my second home 😊

My son still lives there .

Where are you located in the UK

I doubt that you will need to add any other drug such as pregablin.

The only time I need extra is when I exercise

Usually you get the dose right in the first 7 days and that is it .

It’s not a drug that needs increasing all the time.

Tell your doctor you take a little more than you actually need then you will always have a surplus . I have a 12 month supply up my sleeve incase there is ever a supply or change of law drama. I am so excited for you 😆

I can’t wait to see your story and others accessing buprenorphine also.

Thank god what a relief 😅

Was it because of my info ?

Hi sorry been on nights didnt see your reply . My doctors been through it with me for years sometimes he s really good and sometime s seems to get fed up with it ....he should try having it .. I did have to get hysterical to get it and quote this site but he gave it to me . I'm in southampton my sister lives in the north Lichfield . I'm doing ok on it at mo I forgot the pregablin one nite as I was reducing it and I havent bothered since and been ok . My legs started the other nite so i took a temegesic and within half an hour it had gone . Whether that always happens we will c . But it seems so much better i am sleeping alot ..too much think I'm catching up from lack of sleep . Quite vivid dreams though . Yes your post spurred me on this site is wonderful for information . Just need to get of pramiprexole to but i dont take much i also came of tramadol fairly easily to recently

Omg I'm in Bournemouth & been tryi g to get my GP & Neurologist to prescribe Methadone for RLS. They're scared of it & said NO multiple times. I've even had to go under the Community Mental Health team because I have Depression which of course every ant-d I've tried, makes RLS much worse & now my Depression has become severe because they can't treat it with meds. I'm repeating myself to the Psych now.. Telling them if someone would just use some gumption, treat the RLS with Meth or Bup then chances are I could tolerate an anti-depressant...but Ive just read Bup can also help with Depression too!! Why are clinicians so obstinate & backward with RLS treatment is beyond cruel & stupidity. I wonder if your GP would treat me privately based on success you're having with it?!!!

Hi omg it is ridiculous isnt it . If ur a drug addict u get all the help u need but us with Rls ...well..... Have u sent ur people the info that's on here about Buprenorphine? Have u contacted any of the specialists on here they may be able to help .some doctors just dont get it and they worry about addiction !! Well if u suffer badly with rls I would take addiction anyway and stil be here . Cos it literally drives u nuts . My Doctor isnt private and I dont know wether u can do that . I stil havent got the rite dose yet but it defo helps . I've come off pramiprexole and tramadol recently . I also get depression and anxiety I take sertraline but I'm tryin to wean off that to but with life the way it is at the moment it's hard. Keep in touch

We're the same, I'm weaning down off Setraline, it drove my legs crazy, as have the last 5 anti-d's!! I worked in Mental & addictions for over 25 yrs so I know how ridiculous this situation is more than most. I'm unable to work anymore because of it all. Robbed me of everything. Makes me so angry.

Oh no that's bad I work in care and fostered for 13yrs dont do that anymore but it is ridiculous that we have to fight so much just to be "normal" wotever that is . If u need a chat I'm here x

Hey folks, I just found this page because I have been feeling that my buprenorphine prescription makes my OCD worse.

I've been on 8mg for about 2 years, for opioid addiction. I also have an OCD diagnosis. I was originally on 12mg, and my OCD symptoms, especially intrusive thoughts, got so much worse. Each time I make a step down in my dosage, things seem to get a bit better.

Has anyone else that has tried bup. had this opposite experience?

As a side note, I have found that the cheap supplement NAC works wonder for reducing OCD symptoms. It is thought that it does this by lowering glutamate levels. Upon an initial search, I found one study showing that buprenorphine treatment raises glutamate levels. I may be understanding incorrectly, but I wonder why the studies you read show that bup works for OCD but simultaneously increases glutamate... maybe it is dose dependant.

Not what you're looking for?
