CBD oil/Grapefruit effect

Hello all, just wanted to draw attention to something that could be quite important.

I have been using cbd oil recently with a little success on my rls symptoms but going through augmentation so it's really not powerful enough to cut the mustard. Doc prescribed me 5mg oxycodone to take twice a day which is also not cutting the mustard so looks like I will be returning begging for more help!

Anyway to get to the point of this post, while doing research to see if it's ok to take cbd oil with oxycodone I came across numerous articles warning of the grapefruit effect. Basically, if your medication info leaflet warns against eating grapefruit you should avoid cbd oil too.

It's all to do with how grapefruit and cbd oil inhibit an enzyme that helps break down certain medications which can lead to an overload of toxins in the liver. I hope I've got that right!

Important to know I think and enough to make me give the cbd oil a break for now...

Just tap cbd/grapefruit effect into Google for further information.

I knew about the grapefruit ( and Seville oranges- marmalade and juice) but not about CBD oils.In my experience, there are many ingredients that seem to interfere with the effectiveness of opioids.

But searching inet simply does not bring these to light.

I know ,from bitter experience, that curry, hot spices and other stuff, will "use up" the opiate, resulting in a shortfall in effectiveness.

At first I thought it was tolerance, but having changed my diet to " passive" ingredients, I am sleeping through and having no shortfall ( medication not lasting).

I wonder does anyone have a handle on research into this phenomenon, or even if such research is being carried out anywhere.

I appreciate there is a fine line between triggers causing RLS, and foods that may limit the effectiveness of opioids. ( RLS would be part of the withdrawal symptoms of early shortfall of the opioid) so sometimes difficult to define.

Cheers to all fellow sufferers.

Thanks Madlegs1 I had no idea that curry, spices etc can do that! I will be watchful of my diet and look out for any links.

How much CBD oil are you using? I take 75 mg CBD in capsule form and it works very well at controlling my RLS as long as I can get to sleep. If you were augmenting on your meds and weaning off, hang in there. It’s worth it! Be sure to take it slow when weaning off. I weaned off ropinirole and it took me 2 months. By the time I was done my symptoms went from day and night back to just night. Maybe clonazepam will work better than the opioids. That’s what I used to help me get off ropinirole. Good luck.
