RLS and Azelastine HCL nose spray

Suddenly I started getting RLS, even on low dose Methadone. I am thinking it is the Azelastine as it is an antihistamine, but I cannot find any literature on it.

The only other thing that changed was a slight reduction in Lithium. I don't have any discontinuation symptoms, so I don't think it is that, but it could be a factor.

The antihistamine in Azelastine is NOT a sedating one, so shouldn't cause any problem with RLS.

However if you can't identify any other trigger I guess it must be that.

You'll have to try stopping using it fior a while.

Yes. I hate to do it. I have two choices, stop the lithium taper or stop the Azelistine. I don't know which is worse. Thinking more clearly but having trouble breathing or breathe easier and not be able to function as well. Ugh!

I see your difficulty.

How serious is your nasal problem, could you use a non-histamine spray?

I would say that sedating antihisatmines can quite quickly make RLS worse, possibly the same day. In which case you might not have to stop it for long.

I think it's the lithium withdrawal. I took a regular dose and it was fine when I took a nap!

OK, I hope that solves it

I’ve been using Azelastine for almost 5 years and it doesn’t cause any problems for me.
