I just read JPB5's post about their success with the massive IV Iron infusion treatment and therefore I would like to report that I was successful in controlling leg movements with Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. The doctor applied 25 sessions of stimulation to me, in consecutive days, and it began to work about a month after it was carried out. Now three months after the treatment only 2 nights I had some unpleasant movements that I was able to control by getting out of bed and doing some leg stretching exercises.
Unfortunately even though I don't have leg movements I still can't fall asleep without taking a light dose of hypnotics (Zopiclone) or antidepre-sedative (Trazodone). The doctor says that as I have been taking sleeping drugs for 30 years, it will take me a long time to restore sleep naturally and that we should repeat another 10-15 sessions of RTME more, but at the moment it is not possible due to the limitations of movement due to Covid.
If someone has used a remedy to sleep with natural products, other than drugs, and they have worked, I would be very grateful.
Ah, I live in Mallorca (Spain) and my doctor, she lives in Valencia (Spain too).
I hope this post contributes to generating hope.

Dr. García-Borreguero does not use RTME, his therapy is more for the infusions of Iron IV with Ferric Carboxymaltose. He is also experimenting with drugs that work on adenosine (the three main neurotransmitters involved in activity and sleep are dopamine, adenosine and glutamate) with a drug called Dipyridamole that attempts to balance the three above in the brain.
The infusions give a result in some people (about 50% total success, 25% partial success and 25% no success) as has already been published in other posts here.
On Dipyridamol there are not yet studies on a large population, until now it was used as a blood anticoagulant.
I’m glad it’s helping Arjiji. I have never heard of that treatment and I’m pretty sure it won’t be available here in the UK on the NHS. However, there may be private clinics who carry it out.
The only thing that helps me with sleep now is Cannabis Oil with THC (20%) prescribed legally in England by The Medical Cannabis Clinic under a subsidised initiative- Twenty21.
It’s still a ‘drug’ but it sends me into a deep sleep for 3-4 hours which is wonderful.
I know the studies on cannabis from the University of Bordeaux and I have read what is said on this website about its beneficial effects. And I want to try it, but I find the legal difficulty that in Spain any product that has THC is prohibited, and in pharmacies and herbalists only CNB seed oil with Carnabidiol is sold, without THC and that 20% THC would be necessary which is added to the oil so that it gives a good result. I bought the CBD oil and it has no effect on me.
The other option would be to buy weed and smoke it, and I am working on it, but I am not familiar with the channels of its illegal sale and I have not yet succeeded because the traffickers distrust me and tell me they do not have it. I have to find an addict who is known to them and buy it for me.
I sympathise! When going through horrendous withdrawal from Ropinirole my adult children obtained the illegal stuff for me to smoke & it literally saved my life - it gave me 30 mins sleep after days of non stop body spasms & jerks. It was legalised in England in 2019 & is now available but it costs me £199 for 100ml. However that lasts over 200 nights so, for me, well worth the money.
I hope Spain follows Portugal and legalises all drugs. It’s reduced drug addiction ( as the money raised from taxes is used for rehabilitation) and crime.
Link attached. The initial consultation costs £99 then 100ml of cannabis oil with THC 20% costs £199 ( apparently cost has increased but mine is price locked as I signed up before Dec 2020) That works out at about £300 for 200 nights of cannabis. Expensive but in my case it really helps so well worth it.
Ask for a pain doctor and explain you need it for pain ( even if you don’t get pain!!) and to help with sleep and anxiety. Several people with RLS have been prescribed it in UK.
Hi Joolsg, someone got me some cannabis to try,I was told to put a little bit in my tea,I obviously put too much in,I felt horrible, wont go into all the details but I was told I experienced what's know as a"Whitie"here in N.ireland, since then I've been scared to try it.havent ask my gp for the oil,I bought the one in the pharmacy but it did nothing for me,just wondering if its prescribed here.
It is! You use the same link and they’ll post to NI.
I also suffered ‘whities’ when I first tried smoking the stuff my adult children bought. However, the good thing about the cannabis oil is that it’s pure ( you never know what is in street cannabis) and you can take a small amount & work slowly up to the dose that works. Also, I take it 2 hours before bed and it makes me so sleepy I fall into a deep sleep before the ‘high’ hits.
I’ve never had a ‘whitie’ on this cannabis oil. The CBD oil bought in chemists or on the internet has no THC in it so doesn’t work for most people.
Thanks for sharing your experience Arjiji. I looked into RTMS at one point however in Australia it is only currently performed on people with severe depression and Parkinson's Disease. I have read mixed reviews of the effectiveness of the treatment; and also how important it is that the practitioner knows the exact parts of the brain to target. I also understand that you need to repeat the treatment every so often to maintain the results. I'm so pleased it's working for you.
It is indeed a new treatment for RLS in many countries, but in the USA, Harvard University has been applying it for more than 20 years. See studies by Dr. Alvaro Pascual-Leone. tmslab.org/aboutus-faculty-...
And yes, they lack to carry out trials and research with large groups of patients, however evidence-based medicine attributes many possibilities.
Hi Arjiji, can I ask if the good results from your RTMS sessions continue?
