I have not posted here in awhile but I have to tell anyone that is looking for help with RLS in Georgia that Dr. Kendall Nichols at Emory is fantastic! I have gone from 12mg of Ropinirole a day to 1-1/4mg in approximately a year and thanks to doctor Nichols the journey has been a lot better than I expected. The biggest issue I have had is the medications that we have tried to use as a substitute for the Ropinirole have not worked due to the side effects the first was gabapentin which worked but I was unable to continue with it because all I wanted to do was sleep which was affecting all aspects of my life. Next we tried Lyrica which had severe side effects for me due to my depression and anxiety issues which Lyrica greatly increased. I have used low doses of oxicodone to help with coming off of the Ropinirole which has made this journey a lot easier than I could have expected. Dr Nichols has been with me every step of the way and we are continuing towards a successful treatment. We expect to be off the Ropinirole in about 2 months. Thank you for all the advice that I received when I first started this process especially Sue.

That's great! So pleased for you.
Great job.
Great to hear.
I am seeing Dr. Kendall Nichols as well to get off of pramipexole. He is very helpful.
so pleased you have a supportive doctor
so are you trying to come completely off nerve inhibiting drugs? I can’t take straight gabapentin either or Lyrica. They both had such horrible side effects. I didn’t have the sleeping problem though. They swelled me up and also made me feel stupid! Like I couldn’t find the right words and my speech was so stammered. The medication just wasn’t worth it even though the pain I had was indescribable. I am now taking 1500mg of Horizant. It is also a form of gabapentin but I have less side effects. My speech is still somewhat stammered and finding words can be frustrating but way more tolerable than the alternative. I have to have something to help with the nerve pain. It’s just too much without any sort of medication. Hope this helps some or at least gives you another option other than gabby. That stuff is ROUGH!
