My ferretin is 114 and I’m wondering if IV iron is an option ?
No your serum ferritin is fine. Levels up to 300 are acceptable for RLS.
In UK they’ll probably refuse an IV iron infusion if levels are above 50.
The experts on RLS recomend that any RLS patient takes action to raise their ferritin level to at least 300 and perhaps 350.
Taking an oral iron supplement is an impractical method to try to achieve this so an iron infusion is required.
In some places like the UK and Australia the authorities only recognise an iron infusion as treatment for anemia so you want get it payed for by the government health service. THere are exceptions where the patient has talked their GP into ordering an infusion but they are rare, its worth a try.
If you can't get a free infusion its probably worth paying for as they are reported to help 80% of patients and perhaps 45% are given permanent relief. Some people need a repeat infusion after 6 months (or longer) Doctor Buchfuhrer (in the US) says that many people who need a repeat are suffering from some other condition that wastes their blood such as internal bleeding or heavy periods.
I will send some information by private message that includes some contacts in the US, UK and Australia. It costs somewhere around USD300 to USD800 and some GPs will do it in their surgery. Just make sure the GP is competent to manage a very unlikely allergic reaction.
I recieve ferritin infusions. Mayo clinic suggests not going below 100. Currently I am at 218. I was at 80 when I had my first. It is painless. Good luck with your research.
Yes. My RLS IS SEVERE?, but overall it did.
