I have found something that helps. When my legs start getting painful, it always starts in a different place, arch of my foot, back of my knee, thigh, calf, really random. As soon as I feel it, I rub my leg to see where it's painful and massage it with this cream. It seems to work! It also works on back pain and stiff necks and it doesn't smell like Deep Heat!

Algesal Cream
Algesal is a quite strong painkiller cream and will be moderately effective for pain, which is what you're finding.
However, it isn't really relevant to RLS.
It is relevant to rls. My twitching and need to move starts in one area. If I can stop the cramping up of that muscle then my leg calms down and I get rid of the crawling unpleasant feelings in my legs.
Sorry you only.mentioned pain, not RLS symptoms. Some of the pain you mentioned may not be related to RLS, but in your case may act as a trigger.
Local analgesics do not directly affect RLS, but if pain is triggeting your RLS then it may help.
More generally speaking, locally acting analgesics have little effect on the origins of RLS in the central nervous system, hence my remark that it isn't really relevant.
Opioid analgesics however can be very effective for RLS, this is because they do act on the central nervous system. They do have to be ingested however.
Apologies again for the abrupt response.
That's OK. Everyone's rls is different. Mine al ways starts with a tightness of a muscle somewhere in one of my legs. My Mum's starts with an itch somewhere, but whatever it is it's very nasty when it gets going and anything that helps is good!
Hi, I'm the same as your mum, mine starts with a tiny tingle as if I was pinched with a pin. Interesting your mum also suffers , my dad and brother also have the rls so I do believe there is a truth in this being hereditary.
As Bee27 has said, RLS can be inherited for some of us. I have it, a brother has it and our father had it So we have Primary RLS , genetic., the gene can get passed down from a parent.
Hi Bee27 is this cream available over the counter or prescription only? Glad itis helping you. I was wondering if it may help with my chronic pain issues. Thanks

I have taken everything you can think of to get rid of rls. Prampexole, tramadol , all types of pain pills, then I heard about kratom and it’s been amazing. It’s the only non pharmaceutical I have ever taken that actually works. It taste absolutely horrible but it’s worth it. I am positive if it works for me it will work for you. I say this with confidence because I have been dealing with rls for over 30 years now. if you want to feel better I suggest you try it. I truly believe everybody who suffers from rls should try kratom. There are 3 different types of kratom. Red, white, and green. For me anyone of the red strains will do the trick. For doctors not telling patients about this plant is a crime. Try for yourself and draw your own conclusions. I almost feel like it’s a duty of mine to tell other people who are dealing with severe rls because I know how painful and disruptive it can be .
