Sorry to hear that.

You must resist!!!!

If you can't resist a high protein snack at bedtime can help counteract the effect.

Good that you've recognised what's causing your rls. I hope you'll remember the days of discomfort that the few hours or minutes of pleasure have caused, and that it will help you to resist. It's not just rls that's caused by sugar. Long time it will impact your mental health in increased likelihood of memory loss and Alzheimer's , and your cardiovascular health in the onset of hypertension heart disease and breathing problems.

If you can't resist a snack, try to make it low carb, like nuts or meaty snack, that won't make you want to keep eating.

Good luck with the battle.

That's the problem with addictions - they get the better of you when you're least expecting it. It sounds as though you've got the upper hand now, though, so well done!

I have the same problem with sugar and it has the same effect on my RLS, not always immediately but within a day or two. It then takes a few days for the effect to subside and the legs to calm down.

It's sugar I crave so no other type of snack will do, neither does eating anything else alleviate the sugar effect. When I've given into the cravings, I just have to accept that I'll feel awful for a day or two but will then recover. I also kick myself and say 'never again' - until the next time.

Good luck with staying on top of your addition. It sounds as though you are.

I too love chocolate and have similar results. Anything with lots of sugar, cakes, cookies. On the positive side, knowing this can be a good weight control mechanism.

I’ve suffered from RLS for years. Recently dieted to lose weight and discovered my RLS subsided while dieting. Turns out I too had a sugar addiction and since eliminating sugar, alcohol, and refined wheat products I’ve not needed any medication at all. I also discovered sugar substitutes also triggered my RLS symptoms. For me the relief from the symptoms is so worth eliminating the triggers. All the best in figuring things out.

It's really interesting that sugar had such an effort on rls. I have often wondered if it's an inflammatory reaction, but haven't been able to identify it as a cause personally.
