Anyone else get the munchies?

Hi,

Does anyone else get the munchies when using the neupro patches?

I’m binge eating really badly. If it’s not nailed down I will eat it !

My hubby taking the biscuit tin to bed with him otherwise I’ll eat my way through it at a rate of knots.

It’s ridiculous that a drug can make you do things like this,

I wouldn’t mind so much but over the last year I have managed to lose 7st 4lb and I’m rapidly starting to put the weight back on.

Ordinarily I would take our dog for a 5 mile walk every morning but when I’ve been up all night the last thing I want to do is go on a ramble.

I don’t think anyone understands just how debilitating rls is. It rules your life and the lives of those we live like.

I have actually given my husband a get out clause. I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to walk away.

Jees I’m maudlin tonight. Apologies for dropping all of my troubles at your door again.

Hi.

Me too. I’ve been using the 3 mg patches for about a year now, during which time I’ve put on a stone.

I wasn’t overweight to start with so that’s not particularly a problem, but it will be if I keep raiding the fridge.

I did decide to do something about it a little while ago.

I found a four week long eating plan in a magazine which was designed to make you lose a stone over that period.

I didn’t work though, which was my fault I admit.

Because although I could honestly say that I stuck to the diet, by the end of week two, I had reached week four’s

menu.

One of he risks of taking a dopamine agonist is that you can develop an Impulse Control Disorder, (ICD).

You need to be aware of this

ICDs can take the form of

Compulsive eating

Gambling

Compulsive shopping

Hypersexuality

Hopefully your binge eating won't get too serious. If it were, you mgiht have to stop the Neupro.

Unfortunately ICDs caused by a dopamine agonist don't necessarily disappear when you stop taking the dopamine agonist and furthermore, anybody who's developed an ICD is more at risk of suffering DAWS (Dopamine Agonist Withdrawal Syndrome).

I'm not suggesting anything, nor do I wish to be the harbinger of doom, but I just think you need to be aware of this.

Bella, this is the drug talking/shouting. Compulsive behaviour is a major effect (I will not call it a side-effect) of dopamine agonists.

It happened to me, but in different forms. Awful.

The Top Boffins consider that a patient should quit the drug as soon as this happens. It can only get worse.

Also, people who develop ICD on the drug are more likely to have difficulty when quitting, so the sooner you stop the better.

I have to agree with Parminter.

Munch on raw veggies only (not avocado!), and get your husband to hide the snacks. When people are eating dessert, eat fruit first. Serve the veggies first at meals, only serve other food when the veggies are eaten. Brush your teeth after meals. That's my only dieting advice.

My hubby takes the biscuit tin to bed with him - not in the bed obviously coz that would be weird.

He even takes the jar of chocolate oval tine in as well otherwise I’d be drinking it like it was going out of fashion!

I’m so craving sugar when I don’t sleep I’ve even resorted to crackers with butter (flora) and jam on.

Oh I’ve got lots of healthy snacks as well and eat some of them but it’s sugar I crave.

For over a year now I’ve been on a weight loss journey and have lost over seven stone but have started to put weight back on all because of these stupid drugs. It’s maddening but I’m trying not to get in my own head too much.
