Had a pre-op blood panel taken before having my pacemaker replaced. It showed potassium and magnesium deficiencies. Changed my diuretic to a potassium preserving type, increased my intake of potassium and magnesium rich foods, started taking magnesium glycinate supplements (not the kind that act as a laxative). No potassium supplments which upset my stomach too much. Almost immediate relief. Have not had either ailment in weeks. Have now started PT, and I feel great!

That's terrific. One simple blood test and so much misery avoided.
Our advice to new victims should include blood tests for the magnesium, potassium and iron. May we ask what the actual levels of Mg and potassium were? Did the blood test include iron tests?
