Acid reflux

I have Acid reflux and a hiatal hernia. I try to keep off prescription meds as much as possible but sometimes the chest and sternum pain is too great. However, omeprazole and Zantac give me horrendous restless legs and arms. Has anyone who suffers from this condition taken anything that doesn’t give rsl. I have tried all the non medical alternatives. DGL, mastic gum, aloe Vera, d limone, slippery elm and many more. I am very fit and slightly underweight with a gluten free and dairy free diet. Any Suggestions please for prescription alternatives that won’t affect me.

Hmmm. Tried that last night and did have restless legs. May be coincidence. I’ll try again.

Hi Mum - I take a tablespoon of baking soda and mix it into a quart of filtered water. When the acid acts up, I take a swallow or three of that and generally it calms down the acid. I can't attest to the RLS issue as I take clonidine for that (it is actually a blood pressure <8 hour> medication, and this a one off use..).

Try a teaspoon of baking soda in a quarter cup of warm water

Thanks for that. I have tried baking soda but maybe I should try taking it on a more regular basis.

How long have you had this. Sounds like you have gastrooesophgeal reflux disease.,

About 6 years. I am going for another endoscopy. Last one was 5 years ago but only showed a small hiatal hernia. Docs say nothing can be done except to take omeprazole for full 6 weeks then come off it and go back on when it erupts again. Not helpful for my rsl though!

I also am unable to take Zantac but have no problem with Prilosec ( generic name is Ranitidine). Zantac caused the worst episode of RLS!!!

Ranitidine is the generic form of Zantac not Prilosec.

Had an endoscopy 4 months ago and found out that (along with hiatal hernia and reflux) I have esophagitis. Had to use a a Flovent inhaler (steroid), but swallow the stuff rather than in hale it. I am nearly done with the treatment. I also take Pantoprazole for the reflux. I don’t believe it causes my RLS problems. I have tried to go off the Pantoprazole, just because I hate to take any more meds than necessary...but it seems I must take it. My reflux is contained and the meds don’t seem to worsen the RLS.
