Kratom Alternative

I've been using Kratom for over 7 years and until the last few months it has worked great for my restless legs. I'm looking for an alternative. I've read that THC oil can help but I just can't seem to get hold of it in the UK. I've also read that poppy seeds may help but again can't seem to get hold of them. Can anyone recommend something else that may help with restless legs. I've tried most prescription drugs and they either don't work or give me horrible side effects, anyway I don't really want to take prescription drugs.

THC is available via private medical cannabis clinics. They are prescribed privately and oil with 20% THC works out about £3 a day. A lot more than Kratom.Links to Sapphire and Lyphe Clinics attached.

Do ask for full panel fasting blood test. Raising serum ferritin above 100, preferably 200, can resolve the majority of RLS and you wouldn't need meds. Also check you're not on meds that trigger RLS ( sedating anti histamines, anti depressants, statins, beta blockers, PPI gastric meds).

I forgot to ask if you're completely off Ropinirole? Did she agree to let you try Buprenorphine?

Hi Joolsg, I don't take anything other than kratom and I have severe restless legs. The neurologist didn't want to put me on Buprenorphine. To be honest she was quite rude and didn't listen to me when I said I take kratom, but that's another story. My ferritin levels were over 500 but she I did get an Iron IV but it did nothing. Thanks for the links.

Kratom is illegal in the UK and there are a few interesting articles on it. Have a look at Dr Berkowski's website.Kratom cannot be taken at the same time as Buprenorphine. Is your neurologist Kirsty Anderson by any chance?

Yes it is Kirsty, do you know her? She has been pretty hopeless to be honest. Going to look for another neurologist.

I have been a patient of Kirsty Anderson. She gave me pramipexole for RLS. Admittedly it was before most of us were aware of augmentation.More recently my GP contacted her about my augmentation via email. She recommended stopping the oxycodone, as she thinks I might have sleep apnea. This was out of the blue, as I have insomnia problems too. The GP did a quick test for sleep apnea, which showed I don't have it. I won't go anywhere near this neurologist. Nothing else was recommended by her. My daytime fatigue is because I'm sleep deprived due to RLS. I don't think that diagnosis and treatment should be done via email, and few questions.

I think you're right to look for another neurologist. I will not see anyone from there again, as I've had a few bad experiences. I understand how you feel about prescription medication. However, with the right neurologist, or GP, there are some good ones which will help you.

I hope you find something soon Jezee. Sounds like you are having a rough time.

Thank you for replying. I've got 2 more appointments with her but I'm cancelling them and thinking of reporting her for how rude she was. I'm going to try the Cannibis clinic as recommended by Joolsg.

We shouldn't have to put up with rudeness at all. I sometimes feel they think they are doing us a favour. But they do get paid to help us!Good luck Jezee with the Cannabis Clinic. Love to hear how you get on.

Out of interest who do you see now, a neurologist?

I don't see a neurologist Jezee. I won't go to the RVI. I just have a GP. I have thought haventgķ¹¹¹1qàq

Please forgive that strange answer! I have Glaucoma and my eyesight is very poor.

I'm currently a patient of Kirsty Anderson. I'm kinda 50/50 with how things have gone. Some things have been helpful, others not so much. I just feel doctors are just reluctant to prescribe enough of the right meds that really work. I'm on dopamine agonists and gabapentin which are working to an extent.

I dread augmentation so so much and have voiced my opinion that I don't want to be on them tbh.

I think there is a reluctance to prescribe the necessary medication, if it involves opiates. They will try everything else first. I'm surprised she is not trying to persuade you to come off DAs. I can see if something is still working to some extent you want to leave well alone. I'm really struggling to reduce my Pramipexole, it is making my legs go crazy during the day. I have the opiates (low dose) to help , but it's a struggle.

Thank you for replying. When I first spoke with Kirsty over the phone I thought she really understood me but over time she's done very little and the last face to face appointment she came across rude and not interested in what I had to say. Have you tried Kratom, it has been a life saver for me for years.

I did try kratom, but it didn't work for me. It also upset my stomach (Crohn's Disease). It's a shame it's not working anymore for you. There's no point in seeing a specialist who isn't prepared to listen to you. That in itself is rude.

Some vendors kratom affects my stomach but it's worth trying a different vendor. Look at the recommendations from The American Kratom Association.

I'll have a look at that thank you. I found it didn't help my RLS unfortunately. I found a reputable company called Go Pure, but I was so disappointed that it didn't work. I bought the recommended type, think it was Red Kratom, can't be sure. But Brexit and the change in the UK law just put me off.

Kratom reminded me of a treatment I had from a Chinese acupuncturist. Foul tasting. I had to boil a bunch of twigs etc and boil it up to take very day. I've tried so many things for RLS and ME, now called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and Fibromyalgia.

Over 2 years of use before prescribed pregablin.

I forced kratom down and added infused thc. Cost was a challenge.

Best for sleep as a combo. Both should be in the RLS cabinet.

I will always consider kratom. Especially if weening from one rls pharma to another. Soften the blow that is augmentation.
