I cant believe I've been rls free for the last maybe 7days.my husband says he notices that this does seem to happen like a cycle, I'm trying to sort out my diet ie. Gluten, alcohol, white bread etc. It's hard to do because I need to find alternatives but I'm gonna keep on with this trial, also I didnt change from pramipexole to ropinirole which my unhelpful gp prescribed.I'm very glad of advice on here just to know someone is listening.

Thanks Manerva, forgot to say I've been taking Gentle iron for the last few weeks along with a vitamin C tablet, think it could be just kicking in now. 🙏

Hi myMollie, I've been on Pramipexole for soo long and do believe that it's not helping my rls.just wondered how long you've been on it and how it's affecting you. The advice on this forum is to ask my gp to give me pregabalin but for reasons unknown to me he refused, he prescribed ropinirole which I believe is the same as pramipexole, I have decided not to take it and find out if another gp in my surgery will listen to me. I did check information on these, seems its all trial and error.

I am a huge believer that RLS needs to be managed by a competent, knowledgeable, physician who is a sleep medicine or neurologist who is up-to-date in RLS. that is at least for the initial diagnosis and getting stabilized. That said, your GP should be able to manage you for refills, etc., but if you start augmenting or you need specialized help, you should be able to go back for a consult. I realize that we all have different plans and different policies with different regulations on seeing specialists. I have found out that if I am polite but insistent with my GP, and explain that there are lots of new treatments and modalities that a specialist may be aware of and bring in some well-researched information for her, that this is usually not a problem. I will take in my copies of Night Walkers to her and my specialist who both appreciate it. As a former medical professional, I believe in the squeaky wheel theory with a big helping of politeness and research do go a long way. Just my humble opinion . . .

Hi Whymelord. Glad to hear you are experiencing some relief from your rls. I have been on Pramipexole for 8 years, recently along with Co-codemol, as prescribed by my Neurologist, and the combination is working for me. If you continue to have problems, I would suggest you get your Ferritin levels checked out by a blood test, as this iron is very important when it comes to rls. Hope this helps.

Hi Whymelord

I’ve suffered from RLS my entire life (58 years) and there’s a definite cycle involved. As a child I suffered from it all the time, during the day as well as every night, and it’s definitely linked to stress levels. As an adult, and particularly since it started to settle down, I noticed it followed my menstrual cycle. In the week before my period was due, when PMT strikes, my symptoms shoot through the roof for several days. It’s also the week I’ll have a big drop in weight when dieting, so lots of metabolic things going on at that time. Even though I no longer have periods it still follows the same cycle, although thanks to Tramadol mucking up my brain I no longer have such an obvious break between times.

I haven’t found any obvious triggers for me other than stress, but many people on here have found caffeine, alcohol etc make their symptoms worse. I’m on Pregabalin which helps with the worst of it. Good luck with finding what helps for you.

Hi,Im just not sure what sets the bloody thing off, I'm well past menstrual cycles😊😁but do agree that stress could be a factor, believe or not I'm having a nice glass of chardonnay as we speak so I could be I in for a bad night but I'm a bit fed up living without somethings that I enjoy, it's all an individual thing what works for one may not work for another, I hope you get a long free spell, it's like Heaven, good luck.

I've tried different things and sometimes I've been free for several days and I've thought I really found something that really helped. Yeah, right. It comes back with a vengeance. That thing has a mind of its own.

I really hope you'll continue to feel better.
