Infrared saunas for rls

Has anyone tried or heard of anyone who tried using an infrared sauna for RLS? Somewhere I read that it can help. I've noticed that if I run a hot shower and sit in the steamy bathroom, I am able to fall asleep with no RLS symptoms. Of course that would mean leaving the shower running (not a good idea). That is why I am wondering about the sauna, but home units are a bit expensive to buy just on a wild guess. Any experience out there?

I went to a moist-heat sauna at my gym once when my legs were especially bad. Unfortunately, it only helped when in there; they started acting up again shortly after I got out. I’ve tried a dry-heat sauna as well, but that didn’t do anything.

What does help me is setting my shower head to the jet sprayer setting and pounding the warm water onto my legs. I have the same wonderful experience when in a hot tub, which makes me think that it needs to be a flowing heat instead of a still heat in order for it to make a difference.

Very interesting. Quite a dramatic improvement for the woman in the study. Would be great to know if it worked more widely. I hope more people respond.

I've found the shower pounding on my legs helps as well. It also helps if it pounds on the small of my back. You probably have something there about the flowing heat.

I noticed an ache in my lower back sometimes when my symptoms were acting up, and the urge to massage and stretch that area. Never found a connection or much help from stretching/massaging that area, though. Felt good anyway, though!

Far infrared saunas are very different from moist or dry heat saunas. I haven’t used one for RLS, but am intrigued.

hello i have Parkinson's disease for 20 years I am 50 years old and I suffer from RLS almost twice per week .On October I bought an infared sauna for two persons and I am using it for 60 minutes everyday and I realized that my leg syndrome stop since the day I use my sauna. By the way infared sauna helps in many ways for Parkinson, cause many things take place inside sauna like the increase of Brain Derived Neurotropic factor that helps neuroplasticity of the brain. Also the thermical stress produce Heat Shock Proteins (HSP) . These proteins leads cancer cells to death but also has benefits in neurogenarative diseases , stopping the binding of some proteins like a-synuclein which is the main reason for Parkinson.
