I’ve been on methadone 5mg once a day for a month. I noticed yesterday that I had edema in my left ankle. I had to go to the ER After taking all kinds of tests no causes that they could tell they told me to keep my leg up. But as soon as I do the RLS kicks in. Does anyone know if methadone causes edema?

Methadone and edema
Hi i have no experience myself but a friend of mine had the same reaction .She had to stop the Methadone due to edema , told it was a rare reaction .I would see your GP asap to discuss this x
This is interesting. I never really paid attention to my ankles until I added gabapentin to my methadone dose for RLS. Then I developed some ankle swelling. I looked it up and gabapentin can cause it (rarely though, I think). I never thought about it being possibly due to the 10mg methadone. I guess I'll do a little research on that possibility. It goes away if I am really active during the day (up and down steps, walking a lot, etc).
I’ve got it in both feet at the moment, I don’t use methadone though, I take pregabalin (lyrica) and I’m sure it’s that what’s causing it.
I've been on 10 mg methadone per day since November, 2018. No edema. The methadone prescription has given me my life back. Blessed be Dr B!
