Anyone try melatonin and gabapentin
Hi!
I’ve tried both in the past.
Melatonin wasn’t strong enough by itself to knock me out.
After 4 weeks on Gabapentin and still no results, I asked to be put on something else.
That’s just my experience, though; everyone is different.
Melatonin had an adverse effect on my RLS and i believe it’s oone of the meds on the list that make RLS worse. I’ve been taking Gabapentin for almost 3 years and it’s working for me.
I've been taking 300mg of Gabapentin for about three years and it works very well for me with a minimum of side effects. Sadly, it doesn't work for everyone but it's worth a try.
I have severe R L S and take 300ml Gabapentin tablet, 3x a day. If I know I'll be sitting for a long time, ( flights, car journeys etc.), I increase the tablets ( gradually, over a few days ) to a maximum of 6 tablets on the 'sitting' day and then gradually decrease them to my normal 3x 300 ml a day. I also take an iron tablet and a magnesium tablet ( just the cheapest from a supermarket) - read they can help, so worth a try.
On a 'bad' RLS day, I do allow myself 4 or 5 tablets, because I cannot bear the crawling, tightening, contracting, relentless spasms in my leg (s) and sometimes arms.
While not curing or eliminating the symptoms, Gabapentin, on the whole gives me a few hours total relief between tablets, sometimes with no RLS twitching for the whole day.
I have been taking it for 5 yrs. and couldn't live without it.
I take melatonin every night. Gabapentin causes heart palpitations for me for some reason. I don't have rls every night. When I do, I take a tramadol.
Melatonin is great for sleep at night but in low doses(.5 to 1mg). Gabapentin is GABAenergic and I take it with low dose melatonin. 600mg GABA and .5mg melatonin works great.
