Does Melatonin help RLS or cause augmentation? Thanks

melatonin
It doesn't cause augmentation but it causes worsening RLS symptoms in most patients.
From all reports I've read, it makes RLS worse for most patients.
As the 2 comments already.
However, I use a microdose 200 to 300 micrograms ( note micrograms) and that certainly helps.
If I use a larger dose, as often prescribed by doctors, it will cause havoc.
I buy the liquid form which comes in a 2.5mg dropper dose. Easy enough to take 1/10th of a dropper to get 250 micrograms.
Melatonin does not cause augmentation.
Hope that helps.
Madlegs, do you use the melatonin for RLS or insomnia? And is it effective?
Certainly not for RLS. I'm sorry - I should have made that clear.
It is good for insomnia, but only at the dose I mention and very rarely.
For insomnia, a shortacting/ half-life sleeping pill is best. And again ,just for a very short period.
I use Stilnoct. May have a different name in other countries.
I used to use it a lot - and like Madlegs a real small dose 0.25mg (a 1mg. sublingual broken into 4 pieces). I have also used a time release 3mg - but both help with sleep onset insomnia and leave me very groggy the next day. I don't thing it helps with RLS just insomnia.
Apparently it's a trigger... When I was taking high dose of melatonine ( 3mg..) my RLS was much worse, but if I take a very small dose it doesn't change anything
A little bit of melatonin doesn’t seem to help or hurt my RLS, but does seem to help with insomnia.
Made mine worse. Alternatives for "attempting" to get some sleep are magnesium citrate and jasmine essential oil. Lavender oil helps with relaxation and sleep. Jasmine is lesser known than lavender.
