I take iron once a day an Gabapentin 2 x300mgs. It works for me without any problem. Just one or two minor side effects with the Gabapentin but they are sufferable compared with the RLS.
Don't be nervous just give it a try of say a month and see what changes it makes. I don't think any of the side effects are particularly serious, just annoying. Gabapentin does give me 7/8 hours sleep a night which is worth a lot.
Hi, Andy, gabapentin is generally well tolerated, with relatively mild side effects. A bit of weight gain and a little swelling in legs (edema). If your dose is relatively high, you might experience some logeyness. I've been taking it for several years now, and even at a pretty high dose (1800 mg in evening, split into 2 doses), I've found the side effects to be relatively mild. No weight gain, a little leg swelling, and a little morning logeyness. I've found it quite helpful as part of my RLS regimen. I'd suggest giving it a try and see how it works for you. Also, the side effects often diminish over time, say, several weeks. And it can take a week or two to get to full efficacy. So give it time. Good luck!
I am on gabapentin 4. 300mgs a day and lm on iron twice a day because of low ferritin level also 1 codeine 30mgs at bedtime and apart for constipation l can just about manage with my RLS. Tho if l don't sleep lm unbearable
I have been taking gabapentin along with tramadol(arthritis) ,and it seems to be calming my rls or in my case rts(restless toes syndrome, I haven't taken any iron tablets with the gabapentin, but I probably should because I've been anemic off and on,so I might start taking iron tablets, for my rts ,my ferrin levels were no way near 100,but my Dr. said it was in the normal range.I guess that's fine ,but if you have rls or rts ,then the iron levels need to 100. If I do start taking the iron tablets along with the Gabapentin I'll let everyone know how it went with the gabapentin.
I wanted to share this with y'all, I found this lotion here in Houston it's name is TWO OLD GOATS,I rub this lotion on my knees and my toes, it helps relieve pain and relieves the rls symptoms temporarily. This lotion helps with relieving other things too.
I found it in a hardware store ,it also has a nice fragrance, my friend rubs it on her legs to ease the pain .
I thought that I would mention this ,I don't know if it is sold only in Houston ,or maybe else where (it's a blue bottle)
If you can find it ,it does help,I got it to help my arthritis. I rub it on my knuckles on my toes when they start hurting.
