Interesting idea, worth a shot?

LongtimeRLSsufferer profile image

I saw this and thought it might be worth a shot as anyone who suffers with this horrible problem will know that anything is worth a go.

Yeah and I am selling bottled air from Ireland that has been known by some to stop RLS completely, even before its began. I'm all for placebo.

Irish air is supposed to be a 'Cure All' raffs. 😂🍀

in reply toJose651

Indeed it is, I've found a very specialised area which has just the right make up to create an air so pure and good for you it will cure all conditions, (as long as you believe it does and keep taking the other treatments), if you die from any illness you've been trying to cure with my bottled air its because you haven't used it correctly, (it effects each individual differently so you have to work out your own dose).

I offer discounts to HU members, just write RLS on the back of the cheque and once it clears I will post the bottles out, starting at a ridiculously low price of £10 A LITRE!!!! There are discounts for larger orders.

beady3,

You can buy it direct from me. I sell it to raffs. And he's charging £10 a litre. Rip Off. He buys it off me for a fiver.

😤😩

in reply toJose651

beady3 don't listen to these malicious untruths, and dare I say lies. I go out at dawn, dawn mind and that changes every day to harvest the air, I have built a special device that allows the air molecules to be safely harvested thereby maintaining their structure and their healing properties. PLUS I only harvest from a renewable source.

With all the H&S checks and the fact we get Tibetan Monks to send good vibes every third Saturday and every Sunday during Lent there is NO WAY you would get that for £5!

Then there is the packaging and delivery and the more I think about it it should be £15 a bottle, bloody great bargain at a £10.

Jose651 profile image
Jose651 in reply to

Don't mention renewable anything, biomass or otherwise.

Or fuel, green or the other sort for tractors, monks, priests, ministers, them un's up on the hill, flegs or anything else that will delay my Hip Replacement. Ah well, I'll probably have it done this time 3/4 years.

Up she flew.

in reply toJose651

Did I mention the 15 boilers I need to run to keep the labels for the bottles warm, you know that doesn't come cheap having to run them 24/7 and only a pittance from Stormont, hardly enough to buy bowler hat conditioner!!! :)

Brexit showed the world how England, in particular wanted a change from the old cronies, Trump showed the Yanks wanted the same. What's the bet we end up with the same shower of sh1ts that have been running the place into the ground this past number of decades?!

If you want I'll sell you my air business for £4,000,000 and a luxury villa in the south of Spain, if I don't have to here "It's them uns fault" again!!

Jose651 profile image
Jose651 in reply to

I can well believe it's not cheap running them new boilers ye got, I don't where, But you could try closin the durs at night an keep the heat in a bit, anyway I was just thinking, what do you need a sheeed the size of half an acre fur. A smaller one would suit ye better.....but then again, sure you're not paying fur to heat it....we are.

Is it me or you thats getting the villa raffs?

in reply toJose651

If I don't keep the doors open then it would be too hot!! Talk sense! And everyone knows the bigger the shed the better the label.

Just need a couple of hundred thousand more from the generous public, (thank god they didn't want parties in that would have squandered the money on the likes of Health or Education), so I can get the gold trim on the infinity pool and I'll be off :)

It's all soft soap! 😂 Isn't that where we came in?

in reply toMadlegs1

I'll sell you some of that too, heated to perfection the scent molecules attach themselves to the RLS cells in the leg, (yes they are real I dreamt them), and through the power of Jesus, Mohammed, and Buddha they carry the RLS cells off to Narnia where a big lion eats them.

Although not as good as my bargain air!

Madlegs1 profile image
Madlegs1 in reply to

Why on earth am I getting the feeling you are taking the Michael?😆

in reply toMadlegs1

No no serious stuff. I saw a site that had an article about the effectiveness of the soap explaining it was the scent molecules that did the trick, and the rest just follows on from that in a logical manner.

Many famous people have had ideas come to them in dreams. As we all know August Kekulé had been worrying about how the atoms in benzene are arranged and lo and behold he dreamt the answer. AND Srinivasa Ramanujan would not be a name known throughout the world if the Hindu goddess Namagiri did not appear in his dreams to tell him the answers needed. Obviously the night I dreamt about the giant marshmallows made from poisoned barbed wire that pulsed in my legs were RLS cells and the little fairies that crept in through my pores to eat the marshmallows were scent cells, (I knew this because they smelled of old bus stations from the 1980's).

We all know that all believers in God(s) know that there God(s) is/are the only one/ones and he/it/she/they have nothing to do all day but watch us humans so they must then use their energies/mojo/vibes to movie the scent encompassed RLS cells to somewhere where they wont bother us, and since Narnia is a made up place surely there can be no better place for them to go.

The lion is there as there was a lion killed in Africa that seemed to p1ss people off more than the thousands upon thousands of children dying in Africa every day so I made sure a lion got fed to keep those people happy.

The guy who had the original article was very helpful he even went to the bother of creating his own special lavender scented flat soap especially designed to fit comfortably between your sheets. Good to see other genuine people like me out there helping RLS sufferers.

I cannot believe the pathetically juvenile responses my post has had as 'responses'. I can honestly say that as a true sufferer of this awful infliction that as with anyone else that had truly ever had this problem that they would not be so small minded and take the post as it was meant and that is HOPE. We all need some and if the soap thing has the slightest chance of bringing any relief at all then how can it be bad? This just shows that these 'people' have obviously never had to suffer this affliction. I can honestly say that this has put me off bothering posting as I have taken this very personally. So to the non believing obviously non sufferers, you win, I will not be wasting my time with this site anymore if it is to be treated so flippantly.

I am sorry LongtimeRLSsufferer, we did get a bit carried away on our banter, but it wasnt intended to make you feel bad. We do all suffer with RLS believe me on that. To be honest i for one only believe the soap to be a placebo effect but if it works for anyone then thats good for them. We see the soap come up all the time on the forum so its not something new to us. There are many posts on the forum about the soap and many comments. Good and bad depending on whether it worked or didnt for some.

Yeah- Raffs definitely started it all.

I used the soap and it worked brilliantly for one night- as I have already reported if anyone had bothered to search this topic. It has never worked again even though I tried different soaps and socks and positions etc.

I have also written extensively on the placebo effect and fully endorse its effectiveness.

The Celtic participants in this forum are a miserable funloving lot of gits and sometimes we have to put up with them for the sake of our sanity.😈

Do hope you all have a nice day!

Nonjudgment is essential, not only on a site like this where folks are expressing their feelings about a terrible condition that is affecting their entire lives, but also in the world. We need kindness in this world. If we ever expect to have peace and happiness. It's our judgment toward others that must end. Sorry, I don't mean to be on a soapbox here—no pun intended considering topic. But this is a topic that really concerns me in every aspect of life.

I've only been on the site for a few days, and for the most part I've seen nothing but kindness. But all it takes is one person saying something is silly, crazy, or ridiculous, and it cuts to the heart. Someone may not agree with someone else's ideas or methods, but as a leader of support groups for years, I always tell my group members there are other ways to disagree, kinder ways, gentler ways. The end result is far more positive. We can't be afraid to express our feelings. Everyone's experiences are important. And if someone feels offended, it's vital to speak up and say ouch.

Good for you LongtimeRLSsufferer. Let your ouch be a lesson to all of us.

99selkies profile image

tried this a couple of years ago Didn't work for me

OK OK its all my fault, under the direct tutelage of Putin, Sinn Féin and Satan I have been scent, (sorry :) ) to prevent people who suffer from RLS finding the one true cure.

Very insensitive of the OP to claim we don't suffer, I have RLS over my entire body and have been on the brink of suicide on many occasions and have also been told on many occasions that soap will cure it - despite washing in soap for the first 17 or so years of my life - the stuff about the scent molecules was on a site claiming that soap worked!!! Now you don't need a doctorate to recognise that scam.

Longtimesuffer had you researched the soap you would find it is ONLY placebo and good as that might be it is insulting, I find it very insulting when I am told I am at fault for 'dissing' the soap, (not by the guys covering their asses - beady and the Legs great name for a crime fighting duo). How many cancer suffers have you suggested such things to? I wonder how you would react if someone suffering from cancer rejected failed and unworkable treatments?

The search function here would have shown plenty of feelings about the soap, some here hate the soap more than empty barns full of boilers!!!!

When someone can explain to me a rough mechanism of how the soap works I'll try it, (I may have been a bit misleading about the lion in Narnia), otherwise I stick to my very cheap and GMO free air, stocks are going fast, (and will go faster when Trump starts WW3).

LongtimeRLSsufferer profile image
LongtimeRLSsufferer in reply to

Raffs if you had an ounce of intelligence you would have realised that my posting this was purely for the people who had not only never heard of this - I myself have been a sufferer all my life and had never heard of it - also my late mother was a chronic sufferer but she was never given any medication for hers so she would have gladly tried anything liek this to try to get relief.

I am relatively new to the site in as such I only come on here as and when I need advise or am at an all time low to try to find something to help.

I had no idea there was as search function to look to see if anyone had ever put this information up before.

And why should I?

How many new subscribers are there on this site on a regular basis?

How many of them would think to do a search for this?

So if I have even helped one person get even one decent nights sleep from trying this - and yes several people who truly do suffer with this have given it a shot, as they like me would try anything, be it a placebo or not.

You will also read in all of these comments from people who have actually tried it -as I say willing to try anything- that they have had some relief even if only short lived.

This to me says that even if it is a placebo then if you are at the end of your tether then as my heading says 'its worth a shot'.

Over the years I have tried all sorts of stupid things and some have helped for a while, some have not but this is supposed to be a friendly place for sufferers to come for help.

Not a place to feel persecuted and ridiculed.

If it was up to 'people' like you cures would never be found as they would all be laughed off and we would all be living in the dark ages.

So when someone innocently puts up a post, do us all a favour and 'if you dont have anything sensible to say then say nothing'.

If you want to act the fool then why not put up a post yourself? That way your partners in crime can 'banter' to your hearts content.

But in the meantime please leave genuine people who are only trying to help alone as one day you will pick on the wrong person and it could end badly ie suicide etc.

This is a place for people at the end of their tether to start with, so it will not take much to give some that extra push that you think is so funny.

I myself do not find it at all funny to bully people which this kind of is.

in reply toLongtimeRLSsufferer

If you read my first post I am all for placebo. Regarding the search engine its up there on the top right of the screen very large, and the majority of sites have them, my apologies for thinking you would know this.

I do not laugh at cures but have been insulted by Drs who I have attended because I am demented with pain and suffering suggest something like this. As I mentioned in my humorous posts, (I know self praise is no praise) there are people capitalising on this to make money out of our misery.

I didn't slam your lack of knowledge, I did not ridicule you for not using the, to me, very obvious search engine. I did not call into question your intelligence, instead I poked fun at something bothersome. I would suggest for your own peace of mind to adopt a similar approach - look at the length of your OP and compare it to the rant against me!

I feel sorry for you that you take such vexation at what was obviously fun banter between people, people who need a little light in their lives more than soap in their beds, imho!

I feel you are being more than disingenuous with your attack and can only hope that by buying my bottled air it will relieve you of these dark menacing thought patterns. When you say "do us all a favour", is there a group you are speaking for? I didn't know that my posts between me and say MadLegs1 were causing annoyance to a specific group of people. May I suggest that you pass on the info on the search engine to them? :)

Also being on here I have seen people jump from one thing to another with little understanding and causing themselves no end of harm, I feel that if humour causes someone to think then that's good, people need to think.

I cannot undo your way of thinking but if you were to approach this as people on a site enjoying banter instead of challenging then it might be easier on you. Also your threat to have nothing to do with this site because you feel offended at someone's humour, why would you cut off your nose to spite your face? If you don't like the information I have and the way I deliver it don't read my posts and you wont be offended. I can promise you I will never attack you in the manner you have attacked me and I will not attempt to rally others against you as you appear to be doing with your "Do us all a favour" comment.

If you can break that siege mentality you appear, (mind I said appear not are it is an opinion not fact so please do not take umbrage), to be displaying, Not a place to feel persecuted and ridiculed.

..If it was up to 'people' like you... 'if you dont have anything sensible to say then say nothing'...If you want to act the fool... partners in crime can 'banter' to your hearts content...But in the meantime please leave genuine people who are only trying to help alone as one day you will pick on the wrong person and it could end badly ie suicide etc...This is a place for people at the end of their tether to start with, so it will not take much to give some that extra push that you think is so funny.)

I myself do not find it at all funny to bully people which this kind of is.

Can you point out my bullying? I do take offence at this accusation, (everything else you want to say about me is fine you don't know me and your thoughts of me are a reflection of you so that is fine) as having been badly bullied at school, (physically beaten on a daily basis, scared to go but had to, etc), and have been in contact with many victims of bullying and I can assure you there is no bullying, you are using a tactic to try and malign me by labelling me as a bully, look at the pejorative language you used which I have highlighted. It is the same tactic that is used by various pressure groups and political groups - you demonise and undermine your 'enemy' and make false accusations hoping mud sticks! I refuse to accept that comment.

PLEASE do not let this darkness take hold, it will ruin your life and make you miserable, believe me I have met many that have made that mistake. Do not push at those who are gentle and fun because they don't share the same belief you have, you may miss something that makes your life better. I can tell you my 'Partners in crime' have been very helpful to me and educated me the icing on the cake is their humour, that gives me a reason to keep returning to their knowledgeable posts. I leave you with these wise words from an extraordinary wise man:

My life has been totally ruined becsuse of rls and someone says a bar of soap helps not funny.

in reply toJeanniebeannie

I feel your annoyance, to me when they say use soap I hear:

"You have an imaginary condition that needs an imaginary solution, I haven't time to investigate why your body is shaking, jerking vibrating and causing intense pain, suffering and embarrassment. Yes you may want to die from exhaustion and pain, I understand you cannot have a social life and you can no longer work due to 18 hours of pain and extreme discomfort and yes your family will suffer but we wont prescribe drugs that deal with these things that your imaginary condition causes we need to use the right imaginary treatment for you imaginary problem."

This is my hang up from years of thinking I was mad kicking and wrecking and being told my pain is growing pains, even at 30 I wondered why I had the growing pains and no growing!

Jeanniebeannie profile image
Jeanniebeannie

Well im not in pain in any way from rls and i do work and i just fo not believe that a bar of soap can take rls away and it is certainly not imiginary its real .

jefro profile image
jefro

I've had to put my two pennorth in on this discussion. I think that everybody who has rls knows it is a chemical imbalance in the brain and as such requires rebalancing with chemicals to facilitate a cure. A smell is not in my opinion introducing a chemical into the brain and the soap is not even touching the skin to introduce chemicals that way. In my opinion this advert is scaremongering to people into believing they have rls when they can't get a good nights sleep.

I therefore think that if LongtimeRLSsufferer had an ounce of intelligence to realise a scam when they see one they would not have posted on this site and thus be open to ridicule.

As for the banter, that really made my day and I for one was not laughing at LongtimeRLSsufferer but I feel their dig at raffs is totally wrong and not in the spirit of this site.

in reply tojefro

Thanks jefro, I love having that bit of banter, I cling to that vein of humour like a life jacket in my darkest hours and it never fails me!

Life is hard and shitty for a lot of us, no need to make it shittier. We need to learn to react first with humour and love rather than with defence and attack. We have got to look out for each other and expose the people who would profit from our misery, I wont spell out all the crazy things I've tried to get relief even if you do't know me its embarrassing! I am a firm believer in any port in a storm and it gets you through the night it gets you through the night, however we need to be careful we don't trivialise what we are suffering. FFS restlesslegs syndrome? How about Full/Partial body crawling hell spasm Akathisia for a more apt name? Any takers?

Anyway I think us F/P BCHSA suffers, (see how that just rolls off the tongue), need to look out for each other. Anyway my fellow F/P BCHSA suffers, (man this thing seems to be catching on!!!), I will leave you with some thing to help ease the suffering of this world, a short 2 min meditation:

Well, first, I can verify the fact that everyone who commented has severe RLS, and most have tried the soap thing, that has been around for decades. But, as said, not everyone would know. I strongly believe in the placebo effect, so while not a bad thing, and cheap, soap is an old wives tale that has been around forever. I have been online for 21 yrs, and soap used to pop up when we NO information in my first online group. IT was originally used for leg CRAMPS, which are muscular, not neurological like RLS. I will say again, as raffs said, nothing wrong with the placebo effect, but that is all it can be. It won't hurt you and is cheap are the only 2 good things. In my original email group we spent hours, days months, years talking about soap. The thing that used to get me, there were certain ones to use in any given year. First Ivory, then Dial, then Irish Spring (not Irish air :) ) and so on. There is even a company cashing in and actual make "RLS Bed Soap" that is lavender scented. Now aroma therapy CAN help some people to relax. Not going to to interrupt a severe RLS attack.......A friend of mine from my email group is a retired chemist whose first job was in a soap factory. I will not do the detailed breakdown, or the chemical breakdown, but to sum up how he thinks about, "The soap molecules are not going to jump into legs and travel up to your brain", which is where RLS starts. RLS is a neurological disease, and I WISH soap worked, because then we would not need to have all these support groups for the last 21 yrs. Sadly, for 99% , no it does not. But, like we say, it is cheap, cannot hurt you, and the placebo effect can be very strong. I know everyone who commented here or most of them including me, HAVE tried soap in desperation before we started getting more research and info. So don't be mad, people just letting off steam, and yes, we are all sleep deprived with you.

in reply tonightdancer

I beg to differ on the aromatherapy I find some lavender a little geranium oil then I pop a couple of tramadol, a benzo and a DA and the legs are fine, see aromatherapy in action :)

Yeah the guy selling bed soap should be hung with the veins of his own legs! I detest those that prey on the desperation of others, particularly when I am one of those others!!!

Questions about soap placement when my RLS does not begin in bed, and is not in my legs, but in my torso. It comes on in the early evening, not in bed, and not every night either. There are many comments below saying the soap works with leg cramps. What about RLS? My RLS does not affect my legs. It comes on in my stomach first. It feels like a low voltage electrical cattle prod (sorry, only example I could think of) has been placed in the center of my torso with pulsating waves of electrical energy every 15 seconds, (yes, I've counted). These energy waves move from my torso out through my arms and hands. Makes me want to jump out of my skin. Can last for 2 to 6 hours.

You know, sleep problems are not only caused by RLS. People who do not have RLS have sleep problems. Therefore, even people who have RLS may have sleep problems which have a different cause. I have experienced this myself. I have had nights where I did not have RLS symptoms, yet could not sleep. In the research I have done about sleep issues, I have come up with different causes. For me, the closest I could come was/is HPA axis dysregulation. Meaning Hypothalamus Pituitary Adrenal Dysregulation.

This started for me, badly, after a family tragedy 6 years ago. My symptoms were suddenly waking in the middle of the night, like a switch was turned on, racing thoughts I couldn't stop, sensitivity to any little noise, itchy twitchy feelings, anxiety, RLS kicking in (tho I did have RLS since a child,) which would last for several hours, etc. I tried many things to make it stop, to no avail. At times it was not so bad, just wakefulness that lasted 2 or 3 hours.

To make a long story short, and the point I was getting to, what I found to be really helpful are a few things. From what I understand (and this may not be your problem, but I will say it anyway) is the adrenals are stressed and get the wrong message to send out cortisol at the wrong time. This can happen in the middle of the night. Upon reading Dr. Sara Gottfried's book The Hormone Cure (Yes, it is geared mostly toward women but, Hey!) and Dr. Natasha Turner's book The Hormone Diet, I found taking B complex and vitamin C, especially during the day to be supportive of the adrenals. Taking PHOSPHATIDYL SERINE (which is something your brain manufactures) reduces those inappropriate cortisol spikes. This was the turning point for me.

Phosphatidyl Serine - not phosphatidyl Choline (different stuff) has been a lifesaver for me. I can now sleep without fearing I will wake up for hours during the night. If I do wake up, to go to the bathroom, say, I can generally go right back to sleep. If I feel that I may be a bit stressed, then I take another one, and sleep really well till morning. I take 100 or 200 mg before bed, and 100 if I think I need it in the middle of the night. If I am really stressed my RLS will start up with a vengeance; when I take the PS, everything settles down and I go back to sleep.

Hope this helps! Any one who is reading this.

I have been a long-term RLS sufferer and a colleague mentioned a bar of soap in the bed. I was wary, especially after purchasing Halcyon bracelets a few years back just to get black wrists and no relief.

I just bought a standard bar of lavender soap, £2 on Amazon.

I have to say I am somewhat surprised! 3 weeks later and not a single night time occurence. It may be a placebo but its working for me and I'll take that :)
