I think it has been documented on this forum before that quinine make the symptoms of RLS worse.

I've just said to someone else that I'll give it a go anyway, I've nothing to lose and I used to drink it as my pub drink except I very rarely go pubbing now. Tnanx, Alison

I was told this would make the RLS worse.

Quinine is known for easing muscle cramps But RLS is a nerve problem. But still worth a try I agree

I dont think the Tonic Water makes RLS worse. The quinine in the Tonic Water is so minute that you would not get any relief from it and it has never been used for RLS, quinine is known to help cramps. As it says on the picture, stops muscle contractions, and as someone else has said, RLS has nothing to do with muscles, RLS is neurological.

I know some people say it works for them, but its most likely to be a placebo effect, which is fine. I dont think i would like to be taking this all the time, quinine in large amounts can be harmful, it has been noted to cause heart problems.

Only helped me for 2 or 3 weeks then my body adapted to it and RLS returned. Magnesium oil is a great help but now I use rotigatine as well

I tried this and it didn't work for me = but that's not saying it wouldn't work for someone else

I have been told before about tonic water for long haul flights which helped. Just watch the sugar content in tonic water. Its high if you are weight watching!

Nellie321, there is DIET tonic water which is what I use for foot cramping. I have cirrhosis of the liver and have to take heavy diuretics which at times cause foot cramps due to the potassium level getting too low. I keep a bottle by my bedside just incase, but it's diet tonic, I don't particularly want to consume so much sugar, I don't need to watch my weight but I watch everything in moderation.

Hi there, I've noticed other people talking about tonic water. I used to have it regularly as my usual pub drink but I didn't notice it working in the RLS cos I wasn't looking at it as a medicine. I'll give it a go. Thanx again, Alison

I DO use tonic water at night, I keep a bottle by my bedside. I use it for cramping in my feet due to heavy diuretics I have to take for cirrhosis of the liver. Because the quinine is the important part it I wouldn't be surprised if it does help a bit, I wouldn't trust it as a complete relief but I'm sure it will do SOMETHING!
