Daytime Attacks
Lay down? Was he trying to be funny?
ookla - thats exactly what I though! I said to him (whilst crying) that laying down was the worst thing I could do. He said just sit up and take some more Valium, which I was going to do anyway. Most people say 'I dont know how much more of this I can take" but on we go every day putting up with this. If we could just have some sort of Plan to follow when the attacks come and also a way of helping our loved ones who have to just watch this unfold, not knowing what to do and how to help. If the doctors dont what to do and how to manage, then how the hell are we supposed to know what to do! Yes, I know, I am pretty upset. Takes a lot to calm down and focus on being peaceful.... Janet (Australia)
Janet, I think your doctor needs to do some research! If a doctor told me to 'lay down and relax" I would drive to his office and it would not be pretty, or have someone drive me there. I cannot believe he said "Well, then just sit up and take more valium". Are you on any other meds for RLS or anything else. many meds for other conditions can make RLS way worse. But, valium alone is not going to do it, as you know. I do not blame you for being upset! You need something besides the valium, it is meant, for RLS, to be used in conjunction with actual RLS meds.
Nightdancer, I was so upset after speaking to doc, but saw him next day (I insisted on not waiting 3 weeks to see him). He said he had been thinking about me during night (I wonder), but that he was already dealing with an emergency when I rang him. So, today I have a CT Brain Scan and big range of blood tests that I asked the doc for. I have tried 5 or 6 RLS meds, all with horrible side effects (anger outbursts is one of them and I am a peaceful, quiet person. Im 63. Dont like what these drugs make me feel like). Valium is ok for now. Many allergies to drugs. Better that I make a list of What I am Not allergic to !! Thanks for your words Nightdancer. You are a nice person. Janet (Australia)
Clearly your Doctor has no idea about RLS. I wish that I could give you some words of wisdom, but there are none. I just have to keep on my feet and walking about, which is OK during daylight hours, but difficult in the night. I've taken to standing and doing Jig Saw Puzzles of a night.
Thanks Martyrtothecause. I can only stand for small periods of time, otherwise I will need a wheelchair. Most of the advice is for the majority of people (i.e. people who can walk or stand up straight), which is ok, but doesnt help anyone with any other sort of disability. My life is spent thinking of ways of doing housework, etc without standing up. I need to sit down. When I go shopping (which is rare, then I organise a wheelchair, otherwise I stay at home. A lot. ). I know you offered pretty good advice, but that is for someone with no other problems except for this wretched RLS. Thanks for trying though. Janet
I know the feeling! I only go out to stores when I HAVE to. The only thing that can really get me out of the house is if it s the day my pain meds are due and other meds I use for RLS. I am impatiently waiting for tomorrow. IN the US, the pain meds and other strictly controlled drugs, we can only get them every 28 days, and they are a blessing for me, plus Clonazepam.
Same here Nightdancer. Need to actually see doc for prescriptions each month. It is the law now (never used to be. Long time ago, I could just ring and have the script faxed to the chemist. But not any more). Janet Australia.
keep still long enough to do jigsaw puzzles.....good for you
Your doctor told you to lay down and relax????? Does he not have any idea what RLS is? WOW
