I was sent to see one - the GP was meant to refer me to the pain clinic but due to some problem with the referral pathway, (I think he f**ked up and didn't send it to the right place and is blaming the pathway to cover up his ineptitude), I ended up seeing an irate Rheumatologist who didn't know why I ended up with him - could there be a similar scenario?

The drug is an opiate so should be very good, (at correct dose), to help the RLS.

Welcome! Targinact is only approved in Europe, so we do not have it in the US, but it was just approved for use for RLS a few months ago in the UK and other countries on the UK side of the pond. So we have nothing to report from over here. YET. It is progress because it is an actual pain med approved FOR RLS, and it is a combo of oxycodone and naloxone. We are waaaaaaiting n this side of the pond. ;) Having said that I do take slow release morphine and hydrocodone/Vicodin (the latter not available in the UK) ;)

I have been on Targinact for 3 years for chronic back pain from failed back syndrome and I also have always suffered from rls and I have to say that the Targinact does not help resolve the rls issue at all. I don't take anything for rls except for tonic water and a high dose magnesium tablet. It is sometimes helpful in stopping a boutique of rls but mostly doesn't make much difference, especially in the summer months when it is hot in the eveningsame. I do find spraying my legs with cold water can help though.

Thanks for the information louloubella! ;) I kind of thought that would be the problem with this med. Yes, it is an opiate, but with the nalexone (sp) added in there, I was wondering if the naloxone would block the other opiate in the med. They add the naloxone to get rid of any high feeling, because of addicts abusing pills, and I feared that it would not help the RLS much at all because of that. You are the first person I have met that is taking this. We do not have it in the USA. Anyone else here reading this taking Targinact?

Your GP probably sent you to a Rheumy to rule out some stuff. That is kind of "normal" to do for an RLS diagnosis, by ruling out other conditions. In the study for this, that took 20 years of pushing to get it paid for, they say" This has produced impressive relief of symptoms in patients with severe RLS and other treatments have failed." medscape.com/viewarticle/81... if this link does not work for you, just google Targinact on your search engine. ;)

I have had RLS for 50 years and never been referred to specialist. Its always been hit and miss with tablets. Ropinirole and co codamol. I take co codamol for pain relief for arthritis but it so helps with RLS especially before bed.

I have had debilitating rls for years and finally ended up on lyric about 8 months. It was giving me a measure of relief, but not a cure. A month ago I had to have an Iron infusion as my hemoglobin was deficient and not responding to oral supplements. My rls symptoms have improved dramatically. Prior to infusions ferritin was 11 and a week ago it was 68. I would recommend everyone check iron and ferritin levels.

This post is why l dropped by after being away so long l pop in to see how others are doing on new treatments. I do not look forward to this drug coming to the USA, not if it doesn't work amazinginly well for RLS

Thats ok, even if it DID come to the USA there is no reason anyone has to take it. Its not widely used in the UK either for RLS.

Right just because it is approved for RLS, does NOT mean you have to use it. Not too many success stories on this, because of the reasons I gave above. Horizant was also approved for RLS and it was an epic fail, the drug company that developed that one put all the "eggs in one basket" and are very sorry that they did. not to say these meds do hep some people, just not a lot.
